Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep is an AI-powered career platform designed to support top consulting talent through career transitions. We use smart matching technology to connect consultants with high-potential roles at ambitious organisations around the world. On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Senior Strategy Manager.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is one of the largest independent asset managers in Europe, with over £150 billion in assets under management and operations spanning more than 20 markets. A recently refreshed leadership team is driving a meaningful transformation agenda, from operating model redesign to product innovation, and the strategy function sits at the centre of that work.

THE ROLE

As Senior Strategy Manager, you will work within the Corporate Strategy team to deliver the analysis, frameworks, and recommendations that inform how the organisation allocates capital, enters new markets, and responds to competitive shifts. You will own workstreams end-to-end, manage a direct report, and present findings to senior leadership. The work is substantive and the impact is tangible.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead high-priority strategic projects across business units, from scoping and structuring through to executive presentation and decision.
  • Conduct rigorous market, competitor, and portfolio analysis to support investment, expansion, and partnership decisions.
  • Contribute to the annual strategic planning process, including business unit reviews, board-level narrative development, and long-range scenario planning.
  • Support M&A activity by building business cases, conducting due diligence, and assessing strategic fit.
  • Manage one direct report, providing guidance, feedback, and development support on a day-to-day basis.
  • Build strong working relationships with senior stakeholders across investment, distribution, and finance functions.
  • Contribute to team capability building, including process improvements and knowledge-sharing across the strategy function.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 6+ years of experience in strategy, with a strong foundation in management consulting at a top-tier or specialist firm.
  • Prior exposure to asset management, wealth management, or financial services, either as a client sector or from an operator role.
  • Exceptional structuring and communication skills; able to distil complex analysis into clear, compelling executive materials.
  • Strong financial literacy, including comfort with financial modelling and investment case development.
  • Proven ability to manage workstreams independently and deliver high-quality output under pressure.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
  • Collaborative by nature, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and the judgment to know when to hold firm.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £115,000 - £145,000, determined based on experience and scope.
  • Annual performance bonus in addition to base, reflective of individual and firm-level outcomes.
  • Additional benefits, including private health cover, pension, and leave entitlement, are detailed as part of the full offer package.
