About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Shift Engineer to join our operations team within a mission-critical data centre environment. This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, monitoring, and operational integrity of critical infrastructure systems, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability for our clients. You will be part of a dynamic engineering team operating on a shift basis, maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and performance across all building systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on critical systems
  • Monitor and operate electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems within the data centre
  • Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and system faults, ensuring swift resolution
  • Perform first-line fault diagnosis and escalation where necessary
  • Ensure all activities comply with health & safety regulations and site procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities via CMMS systems
  • Support contractor management, including supervision and permit control (PTW)
  • Conduct routine inspections and ensure systems are operating within defined parameters
  • Participate in shift handovers, ensuring clear communication of site status
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a critical environment (Data Centres, Hospitals, Banking, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of electrical and/or mechanical systems
  • Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Experience with permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork
