KB RACKING is a leading solar company specializing in the development, design, and manufacture of commercial PV mounting solutions for rooftops across North America. Since 2010, we’ve supported over 150 MW of clean energy across 600+ projects in the U.S. and Canada.
We are growing quickly and building the internal systems that allow us to scale engineering, reduce turnaround times, and support customers across multiple jurisdictions.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring a Solar Design Engineer (Codes & Systems) to take ownership of the engineering logic, building code interpretation, and structural design standards behind our rooftop solar systems.
This role sits at the core of our engineering function - ensuring that everything we design is accurate, compliant, and scalable, whether it’s produced in AutoCAD, Excel, or our internal software platform.
You will work closely with engineering leadership, project management, and external partners to ensure our systems reflect real-world structural requirements and building code expectations.
This is a hands-on technical role with strong impact across the business!
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Building Code & Engineering Standards
- Interpret and apply building codes across U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions
- Maintain internal standards for structural loading, ballast systems, and attachments
- Ensure designs meet AHJ and third-party engineering requirements
Structural Loads & Wind Engineering
- Work with partners such as RWDI to interpret wind tunnel testing results
- Apply pressure zones, coefficients, and loading requirements correctly
- Translate testing data into practical design rules and system logic
Engineering Calculations & System Logic
- Own and validate ballast calculations, load distribution, and structural assumptions
- Maintain consistency across Excel tools, AutoCAD outputs, and internal platforms
- Identify gaps or risks in engineering logic and proactively resolve them
Design Systems & Tools
- Support and improve AutoCAD workflows and design templates
- Work with software developers to translate engineering logic into tools
- Validate outputs and troubleshoot discrepancies between systems
Design Execution & QA
- Support the design board by reviewing incoming requests for technical accuracy
- Ensure deliverables meet engineering and code standards before release
- Identify recurring issues and improve design efficiency
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Document engineering assumptions, standards, and workflows
- Build scalable SOPs for design and engineering processes
- Contribute to reducing turnaround time and improving output quality
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 2–5 years of experience in design engineering, structural systems, or related field
- Strong understanding of structural loads, building codes, and engineering principles
- Experience working with AutoCAD and AutoLISP code formats
- Ability to interpret and apply technical reports (e.g., wind tunnel, structural analysis)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, PMs, and external partners
STRONG ASSETS
- Experience in solar PV or racking systems
- Familiarity with wind tunnel testing (RWDI or similar)
- Experience with AutoLISP or engineering automation tools
- Experience working with external engineering firms or software developers
COMPENSATION
- $65,000 – $80,000 CAD, based on experience
- Bonus eligibility tied to company performance
WHY KB RACKING
- Direct impact on scaling renewable energy across North America
- High ownership role with visibility across engineering and operations
- Ambitious team with real growth opportunities
