About the Opportunity

The Solutions Portfolio Manager (SPM) is responsible for working across the firm to create, support and determine viability of custom portfolios and custom indexed strategies for FT prospects and clients, with a focus on our insurance clients. The SPM will help support those offerings by contributing to research, sales, marketing, and thought leadership to create and promote portfolios and index solutions. The SPM will also contribute across teams to ensure execution against the broader strategic plan of FTIS.

What are the responsibilities?

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Primary: support FTIS’s market-leading indexed solutions business, including products such as Fixed Index Annuities (FIAs), Registered-Index Linked Annuities (RILAs), Structured Notes and Indexed Universal Life (“IUL”). This entails:

Collaborating with the systematic solutions team to design products which leverage FT investment capabilities, meet client needs, and maximize product suitability across different distribution channels

Review market trends, client needs, and the competitive landscape to identify areas of opportunity

Develop a keen understanding of industry leaders in key product categories, how the products are structured and key points of differentiation

Assist in creation of marketing materials, client review materials and RFP content for indexed solutions

Respond to client inquiries and questions about portfolio performance, including writing regular performance commentary and marketing presentations

Work closely with FT’s distribution and sales teams to win new mandates and support existing insurance clients

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support FTIS’s existing variable annuity and retirement business – this largely includes sub-advised, multi-asset and quantitative strategies within variable annuities, VITs and target date funds
  • Utilize quantitative tools for the construction of custom portfolios based on client needs and defined parameters
  • Provide investment insight while working collaboratively with portfolio management, Client Solutions, and Systematic Solutions teams to both enhance existing strategies as well as develop new client driven solutions

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • Targeting: 5 - 10 years of experience in multi-asset investments and working with institutional and retail channel clients. Strong finance; with foundational knowledge of financial markets and investing strategies.
  • Preference: Bachelor’s degree in a numerical discipline such as mathematics, science, engineering, business administration or economics
  • Industry knowledge regarding systematic strategies and index-linked insurance products, such as FIAs or RILAs is a strong benefit
  • Strong familiarity with MSFT Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Knowledge and comfort with quantitative concepts and quantitative multi-asset strategies
  • Experience using third party applications to analyze data, such as Bloomberg or other data platforms
  • Industry designations such as CFA or others are a plus
  • Strong work ethic and drive are a must – this candidate will be maintaining and growing a thriving business
  • Strong communication skills, both with clients and internal partners
