About Us

At FreshDirect , we are reinventing the grocery experience.

We’re not just a food company. We’re a technology-powered, customer-obsessed team building one of the most innovative end-to-end food supply chains in the industry. From proprietary routing systems to our state-of-the-art fulfillment center, every part of our business is designed to deliver unmatched quality, convenience, and care.

We partner directly with farmers, fishermen, and artisans to source the highest quality ingredients — then use smart data, automation, and logistics to deliver them at peak freshness.

It’s grocery shopping reimagined — and we’re just getting started.

If you’re passionate about innovation, care deeply about what people eat, and want to help build the future of food, we’d love to meet you.

The Role

The Sr. Industrial Engineer will play a key role in improving warehouse and fulfillment operations through data-driven analysis, facility optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. This role will lead slotting and layout initiatives, support automation and conveyor optimization, and partner with Operations, WMS, and ERP teams to drive continuous improvement. The goal is to increase productivity, optimize space utilization, improve service reliability, and reduce operational costs.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead slotting strategy and execution across temperature zones and storage areas.
  • Optimize pick paths, replenishment flows, and inventory placement to improve productivity and reduce travel time.
  • Analyze SKU velocity, cube utilization, product affinity, and seasonality to drive slotting decisions.
  • Measure and track success using productivity, service level, and labor metrics.
  • Analyze warehouse storage capacity and space utilization.
  • Plan for seasonal peaks, growth, and business transitions.
  • Identify and support rack layout changes and facility design improvements.
  • Develop long-term capacity models and recommendations.
  • Support performance analysis and optimization of automation and ASRS systems.
  • Identify throughput bottlenecks and recommend process or system improvements.
  • Partner with WMS/ERP and technology teams to implement operational enhancements.
  • Use SQL and data analysis to identify operational inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Build reporting and analytical tools to support decision making.
  • Establish processes to monitor operational health and prevent performance degradation.
  • Serve as the WMS subject matter expert for operational improvement initiatives.
  • Act as liaison between Operations, IT, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams.
  • Lead cross-functional projects and manage ad-hoc teams to execute initiatives.

Provide guidance and dotted-line leadership to slotting resources.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
  • 1–3+ years of experience in industrial engineering, warehouse optimization, or fulfillment/operations environments.
  • Hands-on experience with warehouse processes, including slotting, layout optimization, pick-path efficiency, and space utilization.
  • Exposure to capacity planning, demand forecasting, or throughput analysis within a distribution or fulfillment setting.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data analysis, with the ability to work with operational datasets to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Experience working with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and interpreting operational data.
  • Demonstrated ability to support cross functional projects, partnering with Operations, Supply Chain, and/or Tech teams.
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar) and applying structured problem-solving approaches.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into practical, actionable insights.

Preferred

  • Exposure to automated material handling systems (e.g., conveyors, sortation, robotics).
  • Experience in e-commerce, grocery, or high volume fulfillment environments.
  • Basic knowledge of labor planning, productivity metrics, or time studies.
  • Familiarity with data visualization or analysis tools (e.g., Excel advanced functions, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (or progress toward certification).
