THE ROLE

The Sr. Manager – Derivative Investments & Operations Technology is responsible for leading the successful delivery of advanced solutions across Derivative investment, trading, operations, and compliance functions. This role serves as a functional expert and hands-on leader, guiding teams of software engineers, business analysts and quality assurance analysts in delivering high-impact solutions that support MFS’s investment processes. The Sr. Manager combines deep subject-matter expertise of derivatives with strong leadership and project execution skills to ensure delivery excellence across systems and platforms used by portfolio managers, investment analysts, traders, and compliance professionals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Functional & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in derivatives with hands-on understanding of systems such as OMS, EMS, portfolio management systems, research, risk, compliance, and trading data platforms.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the scalability, reliability, and functional capabilities of derivative trading, portfolio management, and derivative investment operations systems.
  • Apply deep understanding of investment asset classes, data integrations, and investment lifecycle to solve complex cross-functional problems.
  • Influence the adoption of best practices in software engineering, enterprise architecture, cloud computing, and data governance within the team.

Project & Execution Management

  • Manage cross-functional projects and Agile workstreams across trading, compliance, investment data, and operations technology.
  • Coordinate with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable technical plans.
  • Monitor project progress, risk, and value delivery, ensuring alignment with business priorities and technical standards.

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide leadership and coaching to managers and professional staff; build a high-performing team that is aligned with business outcomes.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive culture focused on accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Set departmental goals, manage team capacity, and develop talent through mentorship and development plans.

Stakeholder & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Business Heads, Technology Directors, Product Owners, Engineering, and Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure platform alignment and scalable design.
  • Act as a liaison between technology and investment stakeholders to ensure systems meet operational, regulatory, and performance standards.
  • Partner with third-party vendors (e.g., Bloomberg, Charles River, Calypso, Tradeweb) to maintain and enhance platform functionality and data integrations.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8–12+ years of experience in derivative investment and trading technology roles, with leadership of teams and complex initiatives.
  • Extensive experience with the following software engineering tools: C#, Java, Python, Angular, React, APIs, and messaging frameworks.
  • Familiarity with major investment platforms (e.g., Calypso, Murex, Charles River, Bloomberg, Tradeweb, MarketAxess)
  • Strong knowledge of derivative investment workflows and investment asset classes (i.e. equity options, IRS, CDX, FX derivatives, total return swaps) in areas of trading, portfolio management, compliance, and investment data.
  • Proven experience with enterprise SDLC practices including advanced change management, QA automation and DevOps.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence business and technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with a commercial derivative vendor platform, e.g. Calypso, FIS, Murex
  • Experience with Charles River Investment Management System
  • CFA or progress towards one

Base Salary Range: $145,000.00 - $218,500.00

This position is eligible for competitive incentive bonus.
