Job Description

Who We Are

Stormentum is accelerating energy independence by helping solar installers provide storage-first systems that homeowners can actually afford. Our modular, battery-agnostic inverter platform cuts hardware costs by 50% and reduces total system costs by up to 30%, giving installers full control over design, supply chain, and margins.

Our founding team has spent decades at the frontier of residential solar and storage — designing the hardware, building the software, and scaling the teams that brought clean energy into millions of homes. We're building Stormentum to solve the hardest problem in the space: making storage-first systems affordable enough for every homeowner, not just early adopters.

About The Role

At Stormentum you'll join the hardware team as a Staff Embedded Electrical Engineer — Design, leading the development of advanced hardware platforms for distributed solar and energy systems. This role requires deep expertise in mixed-signal electronics, embedded control hardware, and power conversion systems, with full lifecycle ownership from concept through high-volume manufacturing.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end hardware development — requirements definition, schematic design, layout oversight, prototype validation, compliance testing, and high-volume production
  • Design mixed-signal CCAs and PCBs for embedded control and power applications
  • Design, implement, and validate solutions addressing EMC/EMI, reliability, thermal performance, and manufacturability
  • Understand, debug, and modify embedded firmware for inverter control systems including PWM generation, control loops, protection logic, and communication stacks
  • Work with real-time control firmware in MCU-based power conversion systems
  • Coordinate PCBA manufacturing for both R&D prototypes and production builds
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to integrate electronics into structurally and thermally constrained 3D PCB assemblies
  • Design, test, and troubleshoot embedded hardware and firmware systems

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience (or 3+ years with MSEE) designing, testing, and troubleshooting embedded hardware and firmware systems
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, power electronics, and inverter-based system design
  • Experience with hardware designs compliant with processes outlined in UL 1741 SA/SB, UL 3741, UL 1741 PCS, UL 1998, IEC 61508, FCC Part 15 Class B, ICES 003, and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, electronic loads, environmental chambers, and EMC test setups

Additional Desired Skills

  • Strong competency in digital, analog, and mixed-signal electronics fundamentals
  • Experience with embedded microcontrollers — Texas Instruments C2000, ST, ARM
  • Familiarity with memory interfaces and industrial communication protocols such as CAN, RS-485, and Modbus
  • Experience designing DC-DC power supplies and low-voltage auxiliary power systems
  • Proficiency with electrical design and simulation tools (LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, HIL systems)
  • Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Experience operating within Agile or rapid hardware development frameworks
  • Familiarity with international grid standards including CSA C22.2 No.107.1, IEC 62109-1/-2, and EN 50549 a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this role is $125,000 to $175,000 annually. The successful candidate's base pay will be determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, and organizational needs. This position is also eligible for equity awards and benefits.

We offer comprehensive benefits including life, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), flexible time off, and paid holidays.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Stormentum is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information or characteristics, physical or mental disability, marital/domestic partner status, age, military/veteran status, medical condition, or any other characteristic protected by law.
