We’re looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our London team (working hybrid, 3 days in the office). In this role, you’ll design and build intelligent decision-making systems that operate at massive scale and directly shape the experience of consumers, riders and merchants.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

You’ll be joining the Consumer Pricing team. Pricing at Deliveroo is a complex, multi-dimensional problem; we are evolving towards dynamic, personalised pricing strategies that consider consumer behaviour, loyalty programmes and real-time marketplace conditions.

Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

• Design and build production-grade machine learning and optimisation systems that power Deliveroo’s core decisions at scale.

• Lead the technical evolution of our pricing infrastructure, addressing architectural bottlenecks and introducing richer model inputs and decision variables.

• Develop algorithms to optimise real-time marketplace efficiency, including personalised elasticity models and delivery time predictions.

• Partner closely with Product Managers and Data Scientists to translate complex, ambiguous business problems into pragmatic algorithmic solutions.

• Provide technical leadership across multiple product areas, identifying and prioritising opportunities for high-impact algorithmic improvements.

• Mentor and coach other engineers, raising technical standards and improving how we apply ML and optimisation across the business.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE

Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others:

• Significant experience in Machine Learning or Operations Research, with a deep understanding of when and how to apply each to commercial problems.

• Proven track record of designing and shipping impactful algorithms that deliver measurable business outcomes in a production environment.

• Demonstrated ownership of large-scale ML systems, particularly in specialised areas like pricing, forecasting, NLP or meta-heuristics.

• Ability to think holistically about business problems, moving beyond technical implementation to influence long-term strategy and roadmap.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical leaders across the global organisation.
