Position Summary
The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) is seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist I – Cell Manufacturing & Bioprocessing to support translational research programs focused on regenerative medicine, stem cell systems, and advanced bioprocess development.
This role will focus on iPSC culture systems, differentiation workflows, scalable cell manufacturing, and bioprocess optimization supporting institute-wide translational initiatives such as APPA-H and other preclinical development programs.
This is a junior-level scientific staff position designed for a strong technical contributor who will support complex biological workflows, process development, and multidisciplinary research execution. This is a non-faculty role focused on scientific execution and operational excellence rather than grant writing or independent PI development.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct research on iPSC culture systems, differentiation protocols, and cell manufacturing workflows
- Support development and optimization of scalable bioprocessing systems for translational and preclinical applications
- Assist with bioreactor-based cell culture workflows and process development
- Perform experimental design, data collection, troubleshooting, analysis, and interpretation
- Support reproducibility, scalability, and quality control of biological manufacturing systems
- Contribute to execution of large-scale translational research programs
- Collaborate with engineers, translational scientists, clinicians, and external partners
- Support integration of biological systems with device and platform development
- Prepare technical reports, research summaries, presentations, and scientific manuscripts
- Help establish and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Stem Cell Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, or a related discipline
- Strong research experience in stem cell biology, iPSC systems, cell culture, or regenerative medicine
- Experience with experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting complex biological workflows
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage project timelines in a fast-paced research environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral training preferred but not required
- Experience with iPSC culture, differentiation systems, or stem cell manufacturing workflows
- Experience with bioreactor systems, suspension culture, or process scale-up
- Experience with translational research, preclinical development, or milestone-driven R&D programs
- Familiarity with GMP concepts, quality systems, or regulated biological manufacturing environments
- Industry experience in cell therapy, regenerative medicine, or bioprocessing is a plus
