As a member of the Competitive Intelligence (CI) team, you will play a crucial role in delivering key insights that will drive business development and enhance client retention. You will be part of a global team dedicated to excellence, contributing to the formulation and communication of actionable intelligence that influences strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on companies, industries, technologies, markets, and competitors to support business growth.
- Utilize a variety of data sources and sophisticated reporting tools, including visualization software, to present trends and insights effectively.
- Generate weekly and monthly reports on financing deals tailored to specific industries or regions, aiding proactive business development efforts.
- Monitor and analyze news and litigation filings to provide actionable insights to practice group leaders.
- Stay updated on relevant news related to our clients, industries, and competitors, and distribute important intelligence as needed.
- Assist in developing advanced current awareness services focusing on clients, targets, and market opportunities for visibility and growth.
- Create market data visualizations using various tools to enhance understanding of trends.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and best practices of the CI team.
- Engage with various practice groups and departments to promote and refine the CI function.
- Participate in innovative projects that leverage CI and data analysis skills.
- Prepare and deliver compelling presentations when needed.
- Evaluate CI systems and tools, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Represent the Innovation team at local and firm-wide events.
- Engage in special projects as required.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, iManage, DTE, Adobe Acrobat, and other relevant applications following orientation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, if necessary.
- 4+ years of experience in competitive intelligence or relevant research roles; 5+ years may qualify for senior designation.
- Familiarity with market analysis and competitive intelligence resources.
- Experience with external research tools such as PitchBook, Capital IQ, LSEG Workspace, and others.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including PivotTables and charting.
- Understanding of legal professional ethics related to intelligence gathering.
- Experience in the legal services sector is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Cooley offers a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $120,000 for this full-time position, alongside a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, generous paid time off, and more. We are committed to equitable employment practices.
