Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep is an AI-powered career platform designed to support top consulting talent through career transitions. Our platform uses smart matching technology to pair consultants with high-potential opportunities, helping companies access world-class talent.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a Series C SaaS company based in San Francisco, building analytics and data infrastructure tools for enterprise customers. They recently closed a significant funding round, are scaling headcount across multiple functions, and have a roadmap that includes international expansion and two potential acquisitions in the next 18 months. This is a company at the most consequential stage of its growth, and they are adding a Strategic Projects Lead to help the COO drive the initiatives that will define what it becomes.

THE ROLE

As Strategic Projects Lead, you will own the highest-priority cross-functional projects across the business on behalf of the COO. You will take ambiguous, important problems, structure them, build the plan, align the stakeholders, and deliver the outcome. No two projects will look the same. What will be consistent is the expectation that you operate with speed, rigour, and the ability to hold a room at every level of the organisation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead a portfolio of strategic and operational projects assigned by the COO, spanning areas including market expansion, organisational design, M&A preparation, and revenue operations.
  • Define project scope, structure, and success criteria for complex initiatives with limited prior definition.
  • Build and manage cross-functional working groups, aligning teams across product, engineering, finance, and go-to-market.
  • Prepare and present project updates, recommendations, and decisions to the COO and CEO with clarity and confidence.
  • Conduct analysis, market research, and financial modelling in support of strategic decisions.
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional blockers that would otherwise slow the business's most important priorities.
  • Build internal project management standards and ways of working as the company scales.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 6+ years of experience, with a strong foundation in management consulting, ideally at a top-tier firm.
  • Proven ability to lead large, complex, ambiguous projects from definition to delivery in fast-moving environments.
  • Exceptional structured thinking; able to take a blank page and produce a clear, logical plan that earns stakeholder confidence.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with comfort building and presenting models and business cases.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, written and verbal; trusted to represent the COO in internal and external settings.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to build influence across teams without formal authority.
  • Energised by variety, pace, and the challenge of working on things that have not been done before.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of $180,000 - $220,000, determined based on experience and scope.
  • Meaningful equity participation at the Series C stage with standard vesting terms.
  • Additional benefits, including PTO, health, dental, and 401(k) are included detailed as part of the full offer package.
