We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a

Venture Investment Associate

.

In This Role You Will

  • Support senior investment professionals in all aspects of the investment process (origination, due diligence, execution, managing approvals, investment memos, and managing reporting and governance)
  • Support in the management of portfolio companies (prepare quarterly valuations, internal and external connectivity, portfolio development and value creation internally across HSBC global business lines)
  • Support the wider team in achieving strategic goals and managing internal and external stakeholders appropriately; lead and assist on internal administrative processes
  • Support business development activities by leveraging HSBC Ventures' existing portfolio of investments and sourcing new potential commercial partners for HSBC businesses, and track such engagements
  • Provide research on sectors, technologies, business models and innovative companies; build network in the tech/startup ecosystem in China/Hong Kong; contribute to insight generation across the HSBC Emerging Technology, Innovation, and Ventures team
  • Assist in evaluating investment opportunities by undertaking detailed analysis such as market mapping, competitor benchmarking, financial analysis, commercial analysis and thesis development
  • Assist in end-to-end deal execution and due diligence by undertaking detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of investment paper submissions and the management of internal approval processes, including documentation, compliance, internal sign-offs
  • Monitor portfolio companies, their financial performance, strategic returns and impact across HSBC
  • Support wider team and portfolio through up-to-date market knowledge, written research and producing insights by participating in development of annual investment themes and strategies
  • Accountability to HK-based Investment Director, and ultimately Head of HSBC Ventures
  • Stakeholder management including external and internal stakeholders
  • Build trust with senior team members and foster team culture and team improvement

To Be Successful You Will Need

  • 4+ years of relevant Venture Capital, Investment Banking or Private Equity experience is essential
  • Passionate interest in venture capital, technology, or financial services sectors, painstakingly in-tune with the latest tech and product trends
  • Strong network in the technology and startup ecosystem in China/Hong Kong
  • Experience in research, analysis and presentations on industries, companies and strategies
  • Experience in financial modelling, company valuations
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal, visual and written communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. Fluent Mandarin speaker
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility to work across many differing sectors and with a global team across time zones
  • Proactive in research and diligence and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise work across multiple projects concurrently
  • Good at networking and socialising opportunities widely, both internally and externally
  • Experience of working in small teams with senior investment professionals
