## About the role and team
Marvell’s photonics and advanced packaging group is focused on enabling reliable, high-volume deployment of silicon photonics and co-packaged optics for next-generation AI and cloud infrastructure. We embed supplier quality and reliability rigor early to accelerate time-to-market while protecting customer confidence. The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) – Photonics & Optical Packaging is responsible for supplier quality, reliability, and change control for photonic devices and advanced optical packaging technologies, including PICs, lasers, modulators, detectors, fiber attach, and co-packaged optics. This role ensures supplier readiness, prevents quality escapes, and supports reliable production ramp and sustaining for high-performance optical interconnect products in Singapore.
### What you will do day to day
You will lead supplier qualification and production readiness for photonics and optical packaging suppliers, such as PIC fabs, laser epi/fabs, OSATs, fiber attach and passive suppliers. Expect to drive supplier production readiness reviews that cover process capability, yield maturity, reliability readiness, and traceability. Optical-specific quality requirements you will protect include alignment tolerances, optical power, coupling loss, and cleanliness controls.
You will own supplier quality for optical processes such as die attach, fiber attach, active alignment, underfill, hermetic / non-hermetic sealing, and optical inspection, and partner with engineering teams to define critical-to-quality (CTQ) parameters for optical and photonic components. Workmanship standards that protect optical performance and long-term reliability are part of the remit.
Supplier performance ownership includes KPIs such as yield, optical parametric stability, defect PPM, escapes, and on-time delivery. You will drive SPC and process capability improvements on optical processes and materials and lead regular supplier quality reviews focused on yield learning and risk reduction.
You will define risk-based incoming inspection strategies for photonic devices, passives, and optical subassemblies, align control plans and SPC monitoring for optical alignment, attach, and sealing processes, and define stop-ship and containment criteria for optical excursions.
When failures occur, you will lead supplier-related failure analysis for optical, electrical, and packaging failures with internal and external FA labs, drive root cause using optical, electrical, thermal, and mechanical analysis techniques, and ensure timely and effective CAPA closure with verified effectiveness. You will also manage supplier PCNs and process changes impacting photonic devices, materials, or optical packaging flows, assess risk and define re-qualification and reliability testing requirements for changes, and minimize production and customer impact from supplier-driven changes.
### Background and skills we require
We require a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Optical, Materials, Mechanical, or related field) and 10+ years experience in supplier quality, photonics manufacturing, or advanced packaging quality. Hands-on experience with optical or photonic manufacturing processes is expected, along with a strong background in SPC, root-cause analysis, and CAPA.
Experience with PICs, lasers, modulators, detectors, or co-packaged optics is preferred. Familiarity with Telcordia / JEDEC reliability testing for optical components and experience supporting production ramps for high-volume optical products are also listed as preferred qualifications.
You should have working proficiency in quality tools and methods, including SPC, yield analysis, Pareto analysis, 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D/CAPA. Ability to review and interpret control plans, inspection plans, and basic process capability data is required, as is familiarity with quality systems, supplier audits, and traceability requirements.
### How we measure success and the role scope
Success metrics include stable optical yield and parametric performance across suppliers, on-time supplier readiness for photonics production ramps, reduced quality escapes and effective CAPA closure, and sustained supply continuity and customer confidence. This is an individual contributor role with no formal people management responsibility, though informal mentoring of junior engineers or technicians may occur. Candidates are expected to execute independently within established processes and require limited oversight for standard supplier quality activities.
