Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations
AWS is set to launch the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and is looking for experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. In this role, you will build and lead operations and development teams to deliver high‑availability AWS services—EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock—exclusively for EU customers. Your responsibilities include overseeing the ESC launch in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, influencing service evolution, ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency, and participating in on‑call rotations to resolve out‑of‑hours incidents.
Basic Qualifications EU national residing in the EU (eligible for relocation within the EU) Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, including hardware, software, networking, and operating systems Experience scripting in Bash, Python, or Ruby Solid understanding of Linux and networking with ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems that affect performance, reliability, or availability Ability to lead creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices Fluency in written and spoken English Preferred Qualifications Experience with monitoring frameworks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, or similar) Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross‑organizational, strategic team efforts Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performance‑tuning / fleet‑utilization optimization Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar)
