Job Description:

TOR Engineering is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer III to support the design and project management of transmission and distribution (T&D) line projects for both utility and commercial clients. Our T&D projects range from 4.2 kV to 500 kV. The role includes performing structural analysis, conductor selection, and modeling using PLS-CADD. Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years of experience in T&D design and hold an E.I.T. certification.

Individual should have an eye for detail, have a good work ethic and be a team player. Candidate should have a customer service-oriented approach, as the position will require direct communication with the customer. Candidate should have the ability to lead their own project with support from internal engineers, designers, and drafters. TOR is a small company with room for you to directly develop relationships with customers and foster company ties with many facets of the electric utility community. Our organization’s size allows us to take a highly adaptable approach to projects that affords a much faster reaction time to changes in design scope or issues in construction that larger organizations are unable to achieve. The candidate must be willing to be flexible to the client’s needs as well as the demands and changing conditions of a project in construction. Full-time work at TOR Engineering office is required. Field visits for verifying existing site conditions will be required, therefore candidate is expected to be based in Phoenix, Arizona to facilitate this activity. Company vehicles for such activities to be available.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop Plan & Profiles, Primary & Conduit Diagrams, Transmission Section Maps, Structure & Framing Details, Permitting Exhibits, and PLS-CADD models for overhead transmission lines.
  • Coordinate Sub-consultants in Civil, Structural, Relaying, and other disciplines related to project specific deliverables.
  • Develop detailed Bills of Material documenting all major and minor items.
  • Develop loading and clearance criteria.
  • Develop and review of equipment and construction technical specifications.
  • Review & approve contractor Submittals & RFI’s as needed.
  • Perform QA/QC of own or others work with another engineer or designer.
  • Perform site visits, take notes and measurements of field conditions to compare with existing project drawings.
  • Provide pre-scoping proposal support to assist with conceptual development and effort in support of contract acquisition.
  • Review proposals for accurate scoping, scheduling, budgeting and communicate commentary with colleagues in responsible charge of developing contracts & project budgets.
  • Design of projects which adhere to National Electric Safety Code and meet the standards of clients and TOR.
