You will be a core member of Nearwater’s trading team in Toronto, responsible for the execution and management of derivative and financing transactions. This is a hands-on role spanning trading, pricing, risk management, and client engagement, with a focus on delivering tailored solutions to institutional counterparties.

This role is well-suited to a self-starting professional who thrives under pressure, brings strong technical depth in derivatives and secured financing markets, and is energized by the complexity of specialty finance. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with legal, operations, and risk management teams across Nearwater’s New York, London, and Dublin offices.

What You’ll Do

Trading & Execution

  • Execute and manage trades across derivative and financing markets, providing liquidity to institutional clients
  • Price and structure transactions in collaboration with counterparties, ensuring alignment with client and firm objectives
  • Drive the full trade lifecycle from initial engagement through execution and post-trade management

Risk & Exposure Management

  • Monitor market and credit risk exposures across the trading book
  • Develop and apply hedging strategies using and market tools
  • Partner with internal risk teams to ensure alignment with firm-wide limits and controls

Client Interaction & Support

  • Interface with institutional clients to facilitate transactions
  • Provide market commentary, trade ideas, and product expertise to existing and prospective clients

Firm & Team Contribution

  • Support Nearwater’s growing Canadian presence and contribute to the build-out of local trading infrastructure
  • Work collaboratively across business units and geographies
  • Foster a strong internal culture of compliance, diligence, and execution excellence

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field required; CFA or MBA is a plus.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in derivatives, financing, or capital markets trading.
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg and relevant trading platforms.
  • Familiarity with a range of financing structures and derivative instruments.
  • Experience working at a registered and regulated trading firm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex structures clearly to senior counterparties and internal stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong business judgment and a commitment to operational and regulatory excellence.

How You Work

  • You are a self-starter who can operate independently and take ownership without close direction.
  • You are a collaborative team player who engages colleagues constructively across functions and geographies.
  • You are a strong communicator and are able to present complex structures clearly to senior counterparties and internal stakeholders.
  • You are highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • You bring strong business judgment and a commitment to operational and regulatory excellence.

What You’ll Get

  • The opportunity to play a central part in the development of a new business line and regional footprint.
  • Exposure to highly complex and innovative financial transactions across derivative and financing markets.
  • A role within a small, high-caliber team where your contributions are visible and your career trajectory reflects your impact.
  • A collaborative, intellectually stimulating environment where execution excellence and commercial judgment are valued and rewarded.
