About the role

Original posting from The Exploration Company via Ashby

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are also developing different types of propulsion systems to power our future vehicles and missions. As a talented Turbomachinery AIT Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the development and production ramp-up of our e-pumps for the Huracan engine.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In your capacity as a Turbomachinery AIT Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:

  • Prepare and execute assembly and test procedures for electric pump hardware, including inspection plans, acceptance testing and engine integration
  • Design and implement tooling for assembly and testing of pump components
  • Lead high-precision mechanical assembly of electric pump hardware (bearings, rotors, stators, seals)
  • Manage fluid interfaces and instrumentation on test articles, supporting integration at pump and engine levels
  • Support test preparation and execution with internal and external test bench teams
  • Act as a technical interface with design engineering teams, providing feedback for manufacturability, assembly, integration, and testability (MAIT)
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, including design engineers, AIT engineers and technicians, suppliers, and test facility operators, throughout the full test article lifecycle

WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE FROM YOU

  • Bachelor's, master's or PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field (master's and above preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience in turbomachinery MAIT or closely related fields with fluidic experience (Engineer I)
  • Hands-on experience with pump or rotating machinery testing (or equivalent experimental work)
  • Familiarity with dynamic seals, bearings, and manufacturing processes (e.g. machining, welding, additive manufacturing, surface treatments, inspections) and their impact on tolerances and performance is highly valued
  • Solid understanding of cryogenics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
  • Solution-oriented mindset, with the creativity and curiosity to tackle complex technical challenges
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams
