Job Description

UK Equity Analyst

Overview:

We have an opening within our highly successful and well-regarded Global Equities team to be the de-facto lead on UK stocks across all sectors focussing on the larger market cap spectrum.

This is an ideal role for someone with a proven track record of providing detailed stock analysis and research commentary through a fundamental and long-term investment process. Working alongside highly regarded and long-tenured colleagues, this presents a real opportunity to make a material contribution to the continued growth of the company.

The role will involve spending around two-thirds of your time monitoring the UK market, while also undertaking due diligence on select US names where UK sector knowledge is relevant, and to participate in global equity discussions and stock selection decisions involving the other regional equity specialists.

About the Company

With over £25 billion in assets under management (AUM), a team of c.400 professionals across 5 global offices, W1M specialises in working with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, charities, and institutions. Beyond our direct client relationships, we also maintain a longstanding partnership with Independent Financial Advisers, providing access to our market-leading investment solutions.

We are continuing to expand with ambitious plans to double our AUM in the next 4 years based on the foundation of the quality of advice and services we provide to our clients, alongside peer-leading investment performance.

Internally we are a highly collaborative organisation free from the politics and bureaucracy of larger firms that gives everyone the opportunity to make a real difference and enhance the way we work.

Key Accountabilities

  • Providing detailed financial analysis, attending conference calls, participating in management meetings, writing research notes (initial detailed thesis, quarterly updates, meeting updates etc.) along with summary stock slides and keeping portfolio managers across all channels (Private Clients, Charities, Advisor Solutions, Insurance Solutions) up to date. This will include meeting analysts and brokers as well as staying on top of news-flow.
  • Participation in relevant webinars, videos, investor forums hosted by the firm and external media communications.
  • Member of the firm’s Stock Selection Committee which has responsibility for the maintenance and oversight of the firm’s Global Recommended List. This is chaired by the Head of Equities and includes 6 other members of the Equities team.
  • Direct involvement in collaborative global research projects and other ad-hoc equity team meetings.
  • Support the team with its Responsible Investment initiatives (integration of ESG into our fundamental research, direct & collaborative engagement, voting). Waverton (now part of W1M post-merger) has been a signatory to the UN PRI since 2019 and to the UK Stewardship code since 2022.
  • Along with other team members the individual will be responsible for liaising with the Marketing team in the production of all marketing material (fact sheets, commentaries, quarterly and monthly presentations, insights etc.).

Background and Experience required

  • 10+ years large cap UK equity research experience.
  • Able to evidence personal research production.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and quantitative skills, with a clear interest in investment / financial markets who can show a rationale why a UK focus appeals.
  • Experience using financial research platforms such as FactSet or Bloomberg.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, teamwork and relationship building skills. Ability to communicate complex messages clearly and to wide variety of audiences.
  • Attention to details is vitally important: the ability to carry out tasks to a high standard, work independently when required and look for ways to improve productivity.
  • Willingness to adapt to W1M’s equity investment philosophy and approach.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise assignments while producing high quality work to tight deadlines.
