Role Description The Underwriting Analytics Specialist / Policy Risk Analyst supports underwriting and risk decision-making through advanced data analysis and modeling. The role focuses on evaluating policy performance, identifying risk patterns, and improving underwriting accuracy to support profitable growth.

Key responsibilities include analyzing insurance policy and claims data, developing risk segmentation models, and supporting pricing and underwriting strategies. The role works closely with underwriting, actuarial, and product teams to provide data-driven insights that enhance risk selection and portfolio management.

The analyst will also build dashboards and reports to monitor loss trends, policy profitability, and emerging risks. Additional responsibilities include identifying anomalies, potential fraud indicators, and market changes that may impact underwriting performance. Continuous improvement of data quality, analytical tools, and reporting processes is also expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or related field
  • 1–5 years of experience in underwriting, insurance analytics, risk analysis, or financial/data analysis
  • Strong knowledge of insurance underwriting principles, risk assessment, and policy evaluation
  • Proficiency in data tools such as Excel (advanced), SQL; Python or R is an advantage
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of statistical modeling, probability, and risk segmentation techniques
  • Ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into actionable insights
  • Good communication skills to present analysis to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations and compliance standards is a plus
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., actuarial exams, CFA, or insurance-related certifications) are advantageous but not required
