Job Summary

The Clinical Research Scientist (CRS) plays a vital role in conducting impactful empirical research for Memorial Hermann Health System under the leadership of the Director of Research. As the CRS, you will drive collaborative sports medicine research, cultivate key relationships both internally and externally, and contribute significantly to our Upper Extremity Research program.

Desired Skill Sets:

  • The ideal candidate should be a Physical Therapist or an Athletic Trainer.
  • A PhD is preferred.
  • Research experience is essential.
  • Experience in working with upper extremities (such as shoulders and elbows) is required.
  • Able to engage effectively with physicians, executives, and leaders at all levels.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Master’s degree in a related healthcare field (e.g., Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Athletic Training) from an accredited university is required; a PhD is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Current state licensure in one of the following:

  • Physical Therapy by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
  • Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for an Athletic Trainer.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five years of experience in a designated rehabilitation discipline (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Certified Athletic Trainer).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Conduct clinical sports medicine research involving patients across Memorial Hermann, including various SM&R programs.
  • Engage in research activities such as protocol development, grant proposals, data collection, analysis, manuscript writing, and presentations.
  • Undertake clinical duties under the supervision of the respective Clinic Manager/Director as required by the healthcare field.
  • Prepare and manage research studies and clinical datasets effectively.
  • Contribute to national and international orthopedic publications and presentations in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure compliance with internal review boards and Memorial Hermann’s Study Review panel.
  • Work alongside orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, residents, and the research team under the guidance of the Director of Research & Education.
  • Provide mentorship to physical therapists involved in research as well as research staff across all relevant programs.
  • Seek funding for new research projects and programs.
  • Facilitate meetings to communicate with research staff and address challenges collaboratively.
  • Develop and refine policies and procedures that enhance research services.
  • Educate patients, families, staff, and physicians on research protocols.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of research activities and recommend improvements.
  • Engage with other departments, directors, employees, physicians, and organizations.
  • Present topics in professional literature at various meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient, staff, and visitor safety while adhering to Memorial Hermann policies and budgetary guidelines.
  • Foster personal and professional growth by meeting continuing education and skill competency requirements, supporting departmental goals, and mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to compassionate and personalized care for every community member.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
