About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management will oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvements of the company’s enterprise risk management framework. Overseeing a team of eight professionals, you will lead the second line of Defence, and report on a broad range of risks (credit, operational, model, financial, regulatory, strategic, and reputational).

In this role, you will:

  • Lead ongoing maintenance and improvement of the company’s ERM framework, as well as enterprise-wide risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
  • Provide reporting and insight to executive team and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure timely escalation of emerging or material risks and contribute to scenario planning and stress testing efforts.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain model governance policies and procedures to comply with OSFI guidelines, as well as oversee the validation and vetting of new and exiting models.
  • Work with Technology and Compliance to develop and implement a governance framework for the use of AI.
  • Build and lead a high-performing ERM team of professionals.
  • Champion a strong risk culture across the organization through education, communication and engagement.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree in Economics, Finance, Actuarial Science or other quantitative discipline. (MBA, MA or relevant Masters degrees are highly relevant).
  • 10+ years of progressive work experience in enterprise risk management, preferably gained in insurance (P&C or life), banking, or the mortgage insurance sectors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quantitative methods, statistical modelling, and techniques and models used to perform macroeconomic scenario stress testing.
  • Experience working with financial regulators.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd lines of defense, and to create a best-in‑class risk governance structure.
  • Demonstrated experience working with executive leadership and Board committees.
  • Track record of building and developing successful teams.
  • A team-oriented and collaborative work style, and an affinity to working in environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional designations such as FRM, CFA, CPA or CRM are beneficial.
