VP ACCOUNTING
The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for the company’s accounting function, including establishing and maintaining accounting policies, overseeing financial reporting, and ensuring the integrity of fiscal records. This position will drive the monthly close process, oversee consolidations, manage audits, and ensure compliance with internal controls (including the establishment of new internal controls where necessary). This role also provides strategic leadership to the accounting team, fostering a high-performance culture and aligning accounting operations with broader business objectives. Reports to Chief Executive Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the company’s accounting operations, including the maintenance of the general ledger, books, records, and financial systems.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS (and familiarity with U.S. GAAP as applicable).
- Lead and optimize the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, adhering to a disciplined and accelerated close calendar.
- Analyze financial results, identify risks or discrepancies, and lead resolution efforts.
- Oversee all aspects of film accounting, including revenue recognition, production costs, participations, and residuals.
- Manage the preparation and review of internal and bank financial reporting packages
- Ensure all account reconciliations are completed accurately and timely using Blackline, our task and reconciliation management system.
- Partner with the corporate tax team to support tax filings, including international informational returns (e.g., Forms 8858 and 5471), and other tax-related requirements.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls, policies, and procedures in alignment with best practices and corporate standards.
- Oversee payroll, commissions, and expense processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Lead consolidation of multiple entities, including intercompany eliminations and accounting for joint ventures and investments.
- Direct the external review process, including coordination with auditors, preparation of financial statements and footnotes, and support for tax provisions.
- Ensure timely completion of all tax reporting and regulatory filings.
- Review production financing plans, oversee tax credit calculations (federal and provincial), and monitor associated receivables.
- Manage lender compliance, including monitoring loan drawdowns and preparing required reporting.
- Review and approve production audit reports and related tax filings.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- 7-10 years of prior accounting experience, including financial reporting and audit management, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the entertainment industry, with experience in film revenue and cost accounting
- Prior experience supervising an audit (Big 4 experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of film production and distribution accounting practices, including ASC 926.
- Experience managing multi-entity consolidations
- Understanding and experience in dealing with foreign currencies and accounting thereof
- Skilled with PCs, accounting software, and MS Office including advanced Excel skills (Workday and Blackline experience a plus)
