Position: Vice President of Electrical/Electro-Mechanical Engineering

Reports to: EVP, Engineering

Location: Amityville, NY

NAPCO Security Technologies, Inc., headquartered in Amityville, Long Island NY, is a world-wide leader in the manufacturing of electronic security systems for over 45 years is seeking an experienced Vice President of Engineering.We are seeking an accomplished Vice President of Electrical Engineering to lead one of our Engineering teams in the Access Control, Intrusion and Electronic Locking space. This senior role requires a seasoned leader with deep technical expertise in embedded systems and also interfacing those systems with mechanical elements. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing and delivering complex microprocessor-based electro-mechanical products and shepherding them through regulatory certification and into production.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for designs encompassing ARM microprocessors, analog circuits and sub-GHz wireless transceivers.
  • Oversee the design and development of control systems for miniature electro-mechanical locking assemblies.
  • Establish Engineering best practices, design standards, and development methodologies.
  • Lead technical innovation while ensuring reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Able to roll up sleeves to tackle complex design challenges alongside the team.

Product Development

  • Guide products from concept through production, ensuring technical excellence at every stage.
  • Oversee schematic capture, component selection and design validation.
  • Ensure robust testing protocols for embedded systems and electro-mechanical control systems.
  • Ensure designs meet all safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage product certification processes with UL, ETL, FCC and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain knowledge of compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit top engineering talent and develop career growth paths for team members.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and project timelines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with embedded systems design and ARM processor architectures.
  • Proven track record managing hardware development teams.
  • Experience with IoT devices, connected products, or battery-powered systems.
  • Experience with Access Control, Locking or Intrusion product development a plus.
  • Deep understanding of analog and digital circuit design
  • Knowledge of embedded firmware development in C/C++ for ARM-based microcontrollers a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience designing control systems for electro-mechanical assemblies (motors, actuators, sensors) a plus
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, Wireless).
  • Direct experience managing UL, ETL, FCC certification processes for electrical products.
  • Experience with EMC/EMI design considerations and testing.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with experience building and scaling Engineering organizations.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to deliver complex products on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to executive leadership.
  • Experience with NPI (New Product Introduction) processes and manufacturing transitions.
