Job Description

For our Mission Valley Bank location in Burbank, CA, we are seeking a seasoned VP, Portfolio Manager. The focus of this position is to work closely with the VP/Credit Administrator, SVP/Deputy Chief Credit Officer and EVP/Chief Credit Officer while maintaining the following portfolios/relationships: Commercial Real Estate, Asset Based Loans, Factoring, non-SBA federal loans programs and Bank participation portfolio. This position is expected to make appropriate credit recommendations ensuring that the approval procedures, credit standards and controls conform to the Bank's established policy and procedures, government guidelines, and regulatory agency requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Review and spread borrower submitted financial information and request additional information required to complete a detailed credit analysis.

When applicable, monitor borrower's compliance to loan covenants established in Business Loan Agreement.

Prepare in a timely manner clear and detailed Credit Authorizations on managed portfolio, which includes an evaluation of historical trends, projections, management performance, industry performance, cash flow, capital structure and collateral analysis. Identify key credit issues, policy exceptions and recommend appropriate credit structure to mitigate identified risks.

Perform appropriate due diligence for borrowers, guarantors, related entities, and prospects including but not limited to credit reporting and rating agencies, title reports, government and court records, internet searches, and market data.

Stay informed of market and/or economic conditions to anticipate changes that may affect credit risk.

Timely, accurate and effective communication to management of any potential material risks associated with existing commercial credits in the portfolio, including a recommendation for the appropriate course of action if warranted.

When requested, assist and/or prepare Credit Authorizations on Bank's most complex borrowing relationships, including any purchased loans and/or participations.

Assist in coordinating documents and loan closing for loans assigned to.

Assist in maintaining updated financial statement ticklers and BLA reporting requirements with periodic financial statement spreading and review for risk rating of credits and compliance with financial covenants

When time permits, will provide back-up to the RM's and Underwriter's on more complex credits in the underwriting stage.

Maintain up to date knowledge and may train others on products, services, departmental systems, and related technology, policies and procedures.

Bring any suspicious activity to the attention of a supervisor, or the Bank Secrecy Act Officer.

Follow all Bank policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.

Basic Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting preferred or equivalent banking experience.

Minimum of 5. years' experience in credit underwriting and portfolio management

Thorough understanding of business structures, loan documentation and related legal issues.

Ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Ability to work on own initiative as well is in a team to meet department and Bank objectives.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Poses well-developed decision making and persuasion skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to deal professionally with issues, problems, and questions.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; good organizational, research and follow-up skills.

Must be a team player and be able to interact with all levels of clients, staff, and management and support staff to efficiently close transactions.

Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and employ basic reasoning skills.

Ability to work successfully in a deadline driven, team environment.

Willingness to learn new skills and work flexible hours.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Skills necessary to be a successful manager include compliance with human resources policies and procedures, recruiting and training staff, providing regular feedback to direct reports, establishing and supporting attainment of goals for direct reports and completing annual performance evaluations.
