About the role

Original posting from InfluxData via Ashby

InfluxData is the creator of InfluxDB, the leading time series platform used to collect, store, and analyze all time series data at any scale. Developers can query and analyze their time-stamped data in real-time to discover, interpret, and share new insights to gain a competitive edge. InfluxData is a remote-first company with a globally distributed workforce. For more information, visit www.influxdata.com http://www.influxdata.com.

Are you fascinated by the Internet of Things (IoT), real-time analytics, and the systems that keep factories, vehicles, energy grids and software infrastructure running? Are you a recent graduate who loves to code, learns fast, and wants to work at the intersection of engineering and customers? InfluxData is looking for an Associate Sales Engineer to join our EMEA team — someone with a love of technology and a passion for helping customers discover what's possible.

This is an early-career role. We don't expect you to have done this job before. We will teach you the craft of sales engineering; you bring the technical curiosity, the coding ability, and the appetite.

This is a remote position based in the UK. Unlike our senior Sales Engineers, this role does not require regular customer site visits. You will work with customers remotely and alongside senior Sales Engineers, often building solutions on a customer's behalf — with occasional travel for team meetings, conferences and meetups.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Develop deep, hands-on expertise in InfluxDB and the wider InfluxData platform — including our APIs, client libraries, and integrations with tools like Telegraf, Grafana, MQTT and industrial protocols
  • Partner with senior Sales Engineers on active opportunities: building demos, proof-of-concept environments, sample integrations and scripts on behalf of prospects and customers
  • Provide responsive technical coverage across the sales team — answering product questions, running standard demos, and unblocking opportunities so senior SEs can focus on complex deals
  • Contribute to formal RFx responses and informal prospect Q&A/workshop sessions
  • Be an advocate for prospects and customers with our Engineering, Product and Support teams — relaying what you hear on the front line
  • Write content for blogs, community forums and sample-code repositories
  • Learn the mechanics of enterprise software sales (discovery, qualification, MEDDIC) from an experienced team

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline — or equivalent demonstrable technical ability.
  • Comfortable writing code in at least one of Python, Go, JavaScript/Node.js or Java — enough to build working examples, integrations and small tools. Show us something you've built: side projects, hackathon entries, open-source contributions or coursework you're proud of all count. If you have supporting material, please submit that as part of your application.
  • Familiarity with Linux fundamentals and the command line
  • Some exposure to working with data — SQL, NoSQL, CSVs and scripts, or data coursework
  • Excellent communication skills: you can explain a technical concept simply, to a technical or non-technical audience, in writing and in person
  • Curiosity about how businesses and physical operations work — one week you might be learning about battery telemetry, the next about network monitoring
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias for figuring things out: the best people in this role treat "I don't know yet" as the start of the fun
  • Fluent written and spoken English

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

  • Tinkered with hardware, sensors or microcontrollers — Raspberry Pi, Arduino, home automation, robotics, vehicles
  • Any exposure to IoT or industrial technologies: MQTT, OPC-UA, SCADA, PLCs, telemetry
  • Used monitoring or observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus or InfluxDB itself
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or a cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Built anything with LLMs or AI developer tools
  • Spoken/written fluency in other European languages
  • If you’ve recently graduated, an internship or placement year is viewed very favourably

HOW YOU'LL GROW

You will be paired with senior Sales Engineers who will mentor you on both the technical and commercial sides of the role. Expect a structured ramp: product training and certification first, then shadowing live deals, then owning your own technical engagements. The path from Associate SE leads to Sales Engineer and beyond — into senior pre-sales, solutions architecture, product or engineering, depending on where your strengths take you.
