About the role

Original posting from Maybell Quantum Industries via Greenhouse

At Maybell Quantum, we're redefining the future of computing. As a venture-backed quantum hardware innovator experiencing rapid growth, we build the cryogenic infrastructure that quantum computers run on — dilution refrigerators, cryogenic RF wiring, and the related systems used by quantum computing companies, national labs, and research institutions worldwide. Quantum computers will be as transformative to the next 30 years as the internet was to the last 30—and our team is creating the hardware foundation to make this revolution possible.

Position Overview

We're seeking a Buyer to join our Manufacturing Operations team and keep material flowing to the production floor. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will own purchase orders from sourcing, negotiation, and execution through delivery for a portfolio of suppliers and parts that go into our dilution refrigerators and cryogenic systems.

Our build schedules move quickly and our parts range from precision-machined components to specialized vacuum and cryogenic hardware, success means knowing where every order stands, spotting risks before they become shortages, and bringing recovery options when a supplier slips.

You'll work closely with Production, Planning, Engineering, and Quality to make sure the right parts arrive on time, at the right cost, and with accurate data in the ERP.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase Order Management

Place, manage, and negotiate purchase orders aligned to build schedules and material requirements.

Run RFQs for build-to-print and catalog parts: issue drawing packages, level quotes, verify PO pricing against quotes, and recommend awards

Secure supplier commit dates, keep them current in the ERP, and flag risks early.

Process PO changes, reschedules, and cancellations as build plans shift, and keep pricing, quantities, and lead times accurate in the system.

Resolve invoice, receiving, and pricing discrepancies.

Supplier Management and Expediting

Own supplier onboarding, including NDAs, credit applications, tax and banking forms, and material certification requirements.

Follow up and expedite to ensure on-time delivery, escalating slips with recovery options.

Maintain a regular cadence with suppliers on open orders and know the status of critical parts without having to look it up.

Partner with Quality on supplier nonconformances and returns, and drive replacements to closure.

Track supplier on-time delivery and responsiveness, and maintain metrics and scorecards to measure performance

Material Planning and Forecasting

Serve as ERP administrator for purchasing and inventory: maintain item masters, vendor records, pricing, and reports, and support our adoption of a new through go-live and work order adoption

Support material planning and forecasting, including shortage tracking and reorder points.

Maintain shortage reports and communicate status, impact, and expected recovery to Production and Planning.

Help review lead times, minimum order quantities, and stocking levels so planning parameters reflect reality.

Cross-Functional Support

Work with Engineering on new parts, engineering changes, and drawing revisions so suppliers are always building to the current revision.

Request and compare quotes, and support the Procurement Manager on sourcing, cost reduction, and supplier onboarding.

Help improve purchasing processes and documentation as the team and production volume scale.

Qualifications

1–4 years of experience as a buyer, purchasing agent, or material planner, ideally in a manufacturing or hardware environment.

Hands-on experience placing and managing purchase orders in an ERP/MRP system.

Working knowledge of purchasing fundamentals: lead times, minimum order quantities, reorder points, and PO terms.

Strong follow-through; you close the loop on open orders and don't wait for a shortage to start asking questions.

Clear, direct communication with suppliers and internal teams, including when the news is bad.

Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage many open orders and shifting priorities at once.

Proficiency in Excel or similar tools for tracking orders, shortages, and supplier performance.

Ability to read basic engineering drawings and bills of materials is a strong plus.

Experience buying machined, sheet metal, vacuum, electrical, or other engineered components is a strong plus.

Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) is welcome but not required.

What We Offer

Competitive Compensation: Base salary range $65,000-$80,000 depending on experience, plus meaningful equity participation and annual bonus eligibility.
