Best fit for

  • Candidates with prior experience leading distributed field crews and improving job-level profitability in construction or trade services

Chief Operating Officer

Company: Founder-led property restoration company (name disclosed upon mutual interest)

Location: Baltimore, Maryland. In-office.

Role Type: Full-Time Employee

Reports To: Founder & CEO

Compensation: $165,000–$200,000 base

Bonus: Annual performance bonus dependent upon KPIs

Equity: Equity participation in the business

About the Client

We are an established, founder-led property restoration and home repair company serving residential and commercial customers across the Baltimore region. Our teams handle water and fire mitigation, contents, and full reconstruction, and we have built a reputation with insurance carriers, property managers, and homeowners for doing the work right.

The business is backed by an investment partner and is in a period of strong growth. The plan is to significantly grow the business over the next several years, organically, by scaling what already works and building out newer lines of business.

About the Role

The company is bringing on its first Chief Operating Officer. Our founder will keep doing what he does best: leading the newest growth initiatives, spending time in the field with customers and project managers, and setting the culture. The COO owns the operating system of the business, so the company runs on clear process and accountable leaders at every level.

The company is organized into multiple operating departments, each with its own leader. The COO leads those department heads, connects how the departments work together, and builds the processes, systems, and reporting the business needs at its next stage of scale, while protecting the job-level margin discipline that sets the company apart.

This is a hands-on seat. The right person gets into the middle of the work, learns the business from the field up, and makes it better without adding layers of overhead.

Responsibilities

Operations Leadership. Lead the department heads across mitigation, contents, reconstruction, and support functions. Set clear ownership, run a regular operating cadence, and make the business less dependent on any one person.

Process and Systems. Find and fix the bottlenecks between departments. Use technology to simplify workflows like job handoffs, approvals, and invoicing, and give leadership a clear summary view of the business.

Margin and Financial Management. Protect and improve job-level profitability, especially on reconstruction. Understand the unit economics, track the numbers that matter, and spot problems early.

People Development. Coach and develop the leaders already on the team, raise the bar where needed, and make sound people decisions with follow-through.

Growth Enablement. Help the organization add new ways of winning work, including referral partners and commercial customers, alongside its insurance program business. Set up each line of business to run the way it needs to.

Founder Partnership. Work side by side with the founder every day. Take operational decisions off his plate, bring him the data behind the big calls, and turn his instincts into repeatable process.

Requirements

Must-Haves

Senior operations leadership in a field-services, construction, or trade services business of $20M or more in revenue, with distributed crews, job costing, and vendor and subcontractor relationships.

Strong financial command: unit economics, job margins, working capital, and what growth does to all three.

Experience developing managers and holding a leadership team accountable.

A lean, owner's mindset. You solve problems by improving the work, not by adding headcount.

Willingness to be in the office in the Baltimore area every day and in the field as needed.

Nice-to-Haves

Restoration industry experience, including insurance program (TPA) work.

Experience in residential construction, remodeling, roofing, HVAC, plumbing, or other home services.
