Strong fit for candidates with research or academic backgrounds who can build and ship models into production, working in a small, high-performance team in Berlin.

Best fit for

  • Candidates with research or academic experience and a track record of building production-ready machine learning systems
    — “Most data scientists transition from research or academic work to production starting with dashboards and historical reporting.”
  • Individuals who thrive in small teams and are comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous, high-impact product problems
    — “You'll own undefined product problems from first idea to production. No playbook. You own it all.”
  • People who can quickly identify key metrics and prioritize impactful questions in a dynamic environment
    — “You quickly see which number matters and which question to answer first.”

Things to consider

  • The role requires on-site presence in Berlin, which may not align with remote preferences.

  • High expectations for independent problem-solving and ownership of complex tasks.
    — “You'll own undefined product problems from first idea to production. No playbook.”

How to stand out

    — “You'll ship models that run live and shape what millions of users see every day.”
  • Demonstrate experience in A/B testing and causal reasoning in your resume or interview responses.
    — “Design and run A/B tests on offers, rewards, and ranking.”
  • Showcase your ability to build and harden data systems, not just analyze them.
    — “Build data infrastructure and measurement systems that let you reason rigorously about impact.”
  • Emphasize your ability to work on vague problems and deliver measurable results.
    — “You get going on a vague problem without waiting for a spec, and you take it further than you were asked.”
  • Include evidence of rigorous debugging and hypothesis-driven thinking in your application materials.
    — “You think in causation and testable hypotheses. You debug rigorously when things break.”

Berlin, On-site

Top-of-Market Compensation - Exceptional commitment deserves exceptional reward

Most data scientists transition from research or academic work to production starting with dashboards and historical reporting. Here, you'll ship models that run live and shape what millions of users see every day. You'll take the rigor you've built in research and apply it to problems at scale. Your first 12 months compress what takes 3 years elsewhere.

You'll join a small team of people who have built and shipped ML systems at scale. You'll work on real problems from week one with the support to solve them. Show us you can own more, and we'll give you more.

What You'll Do

  • Build and ship models that predict user value, engagement, and reward behaviour. See them live in production.
  • Design and run A/B tests on offers, rewards, and ranking. Work out what actually caused the result through causal reasoning.
  • Build data infrastructure and measurement systems that let you reason rigorously about impact.
  • Own undefined product problems from first idea to production. No playbook. You own it all.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong Python and SQL. You use AI tools to move faster, and you still verify the output.
  • Research or academic background with proof of depth: published work, thesis, strong coursework, or competition results.
  • You get going on a vague problem without waiting for a spec, and you take it further than you were asked.
  • You quickly see which number matters and which question to answer first.
  • You think in causation and testable hypotheses. You debug rigorously when things break.
  • Bonus: Kaggle competition results, published papers, thesis work, or a system you built and hardened yourself.

Why Almedia

  • Grow at Almedia: profitable from launch, higher revenue per employee than Big Tech.
  • Sharp, small team: we keep it small on purpose, every hire raises the bar.
  • Equity: every Berlin employee gets a stake.
  • Top-of-market baseline. Deliver outlier impact, earn accordingly.

Small team, high bar. Growing at scale. If that sounds like home, apply.

We believe in fostering talent, evaluating all skill levels during the hiring process, and providing a clear path for growth. Almedia is an equal opportunity employer. We embrace and celebrate diversity, and encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply.
