About the role

Original posting from Furientis via Lever

America is critically deficient in production of defensive munitions- we currently produce shipborne interceptors in the few hundreds per year while our adversaries are producing offensive threats in the tens of thousands per year. Furientis was started to help solve this problem- introducing a new class of cost-effective, high production rate, interceptor missiles. We're seeking motivated individuals who internalize this problem and are eager to apply their past experience in similar industries (aerospace, defense, automotive/racing, robotics) and out of the box thinking to solve this problem for the US and its allies.

About the Team:

The Avionics Team owns the electronics on the vehicle: flight computer, compute boards, power conversion, sensor interfaces, wiring, and the embedded firmware that ties them together. The same engineers design the boards, write the firmware, and bring them up at the bench. No handoff layer between hardware and software.

Avionics sits on the critical path for every flight test, so the team's velocity sets the program's pace.

About the Role:

We’re looking for an embedded firmware engineer who enjoys working close to hardware and delivering reliable, low-latency systems in demanding environments. You’ll develop firmware, drivers, and test tools for vehicle avionics and edge-compute platforms, then bring them up alongside electrical and systems engineers. You’ll help connect sensors and actuators to onboard compute, diagnose issues at the bench, and make the full system dependable under real operating constraints.

What You'll Do:

Develop low-level firmware, drivers, and board-support software for flight computers, GPU SoMs, sensors, and vehicle peripherals.

Build and debug data paths from sensor capture through DMA and shared memory to onboard processing; work with CUDA and TensorRT pipelines on GPU-based platforms where needed.

Implement hardware configuration, diagnostics, telemetry, and automated bench tests using Rust and Python.

Integrate actuator and motor-control electronics with embedded software, including current and position feedback, commutation interfaces, and bench tuning with controls engineers.

Diagnose timing, jitter, interrupt, DMA, power, and signal-integrity issues using logs and laboratory instruments; trace failures across firmware and hardware.

Collaborate with electrical, controls, mechanical, and systems engineers on board bring-up, interface requirements, verification, and flight readiness.

Skills We're Hiring For:

B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

5+ years of embedded firmware or systems-software experience, ideally on products that integrate closely with custom electronics.

Strong C/C++ or Rust skills and experience with Python for automation, diagnostics, or test tooling.

Experience with embedded Linux, device trees, drivers, sensor configuration, interrupts, DMA, and real-time or latency-sensitive behavior.

Practical debugging skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and hardware test setups; able to work through issues that cross software and electrical boundaries.

Familiarity with GPU SoMs such as NVIDIA Jetson/Orin or similar platforms; CUDA, TensorRT, and zero-copy data handling are valuable.

Clear communication and collaborative habits in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary engineering team.

Bonus Points For:

Experience with aerospace, robotics, electric vehicles, flight hardware, or other high-reliability systems.

Familiarity with power electronics, BLDC/PMSM motor drives, actuator systems, EMI/EMC, or environmental qualification.

Experience taking embedded systems from prototype through production and building repeatable test infrastructure.

Daily use of agentic coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, or similar.

Eligibility & Logistics Location: On-site at our Los Angeles, CA HQ; remote work is not available. Monthly weekend travel for test events and supplier engagements. Clearance: A clearance is not required for this position. Must be a U.S. Person.

Equal Opportunity & Export Compliance Furientis is an equal-opportunity employer. To comply with U.S. export control laws, employment is contingent on eligibility to access export-controlled information.
