Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human
Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.
This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.
The Engineering Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Quality & Performance, this role as Engineering Manager of Performance & Resilience will drive performance and resiliency improvements for the Auth0 product at Okta. Here you'll be working with some of the most advanced technology in the space, helping to streamline and secure billions of access requests a year. In this role, you will work closely with architects, platform team members, and product engineers to build the testing infrastructure that keeps Auth0 performant at scale — including the frameworks, tooling, and realistic datasets that make that testing meaningful.
The ideal candidate is passionate about software quality and architecture, a self-starter, intellectually curious, and brings deep experience with performance testing, load testing frameworks, dataset generation, performance analysis, monitoring tooling, and chaos engineering.
What you’ll be doing
Collaborate with architects, tech lead, product owners, security and operations engineers to implement best practices related to performance and resiliency
Communicate and organize cross-team projects with high business impact
Contribute to defining the strategic direction and roadmap for the team
Own the evolution of the team's load testing framework — driving improvements in modularity, reusability, scalability, and developer experience so the framework can support the breadth of Auth0's services
Lead the strategy and execution for test dataset generation, ensuring load and performance tests use realistic, representative data that accurately reflects production traffic patterns and user behaviors
Use existing monitoring tools to identify problems and resolve and/or escalate to service teams
Develop backend frameworks and tools for the entire engineering organization to use at scale
Participate in the incident RCA process to continuously improve how we test
Provide technical guidance to engineers on the performance team within the quality domain
Manage a global team including setting expectations, removing blockers, creating a collaborative working environment, hiring, and providing coaching and career development
What we are looking for
Experienced in stakeholder management including alignment, prioritization, communication, and receiving and incorporating feedback
Adaptable to changing requirements with the ability to manage a team through a pivot in priorities
Prior management experience of a globally diverse team
Experience designing or significantly improving load testing frameworks (e.g. k6, Gatling, Locust, or similar) — including extensibility, test data management, and CI/CD integration
Hands-on experience with test dataset generation strategies, including synthetic data generation, data masking/anonymization of production data, and building datasets that reflect realistic load distributions
Experience using APM tools, observability tools, or prior experience analyzing distributed systems performance bottlenecks
Experience with software architecture across the entire stack (design and implementation), including:
Understanding of microservices
Cloud Infrastructure experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Datastores (SQL, NoSQL, Key/Value)
Containers (Docker, K8s)
Solid understanding of the JavaScript ecosystem (NodeJS and/or TypeScript)
Experience with Chaos Engineering tooling (e.g. Chaos Toolkit, Gremlin, AWS, FIS, etc.) &
