About the role

Original posting from Blumen Systems via Ashby

ABOUT BLUMEN

Blumen is building the regulatory intelligence layer for American infrastructure. Our platform combines regulatory information with more than 2,500 geospatial datasets to help energy companies and environmental consultants understand the permits, constraints, and risks facing a project in hours instead of weeks.

We are a small, fast-moving team tackling a huge market at the moment AI is beginning to reshape professional services. Someone joining now will help define both Blumen and the future of environmental work in infrastructure development.

The role

We are looking for a hydrologist to serve as Blumen’s go-to expert on water as it affects energy and infrastructure siting.

You will review how Blumen evaluates water-related constraints on real projects: wetlands and waters of the U.S., floodplains, stormwater, groundwater, and water supply. You will make sure our findings are accurate.

This is a contract engagement with flexible hours. It suits an independent consultant, a semi-retired practitioner, or someone with capacity alongside other work who wants to help build the tools their field will use next.

What you will do

  • Review and correct water-related findings in critical issues analyses, permit matrices, and environmental screens.
  • Assess wetland, floodplain, stormwater, groundwater, and water-supply risks for proposed energy and infrastructure sites.
  • Research unresolved questions using authoritative sources.
  • Help define how Blumen should evaluate water issues, including methods, evaluation cases, and product requirements.

Who should apply

You have professional experience in hydrology, water resources, wetlands, floodplain management, or stormwater. That might come from consulting, government, or infrastructure development. You know the federal framework (Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401, NPDES, FEMA flood mapping) well, and you can work through state-level variation without losing rigor.

You are detail-oriented and care about citations and factual accuracy.

Compensation: Hourly / 1099

OUR VALUES

  • Put yourself in the customer’s shoes. We care deeply about serving our customers above all else.
  • No job is too small. Details matter, even if nobody will ever see them.
  • Every problem is an opportunity. Any solution that is clever, difficult to reproduce, or takes serious guts is an opportunity to widen our moat.
  • To go far, go together. We trust, respect, win, and lose together, as a team.
  • Own the problem. Not your solution. Best idea wins.
  • It doesn’t get easier. We just get faster. There is no finish line. Every day is a step toward compounding success. This is a marathon toward excellence.
