About the role

Original posting from LatchBio via Ashby

INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER (AI ENABLEMENT)

Our mission is to advance humanity's ability to engineer biology. We approach this by understanding and improving AI's application to biology use cases such as therapeutics and biosecurity. We are a group of engineers, scientists, and operations specialists who are driven by improving capabilities and interpretability. Some of our work is showcased on benchmarks.bio http://benchmarks.bio

What you'll do.

  • You will be working on problems including agent infrastructure and orchestration, ML infrastructure, model benchmarking at scale, full stack web development, developer and user experience, and process optimization. Infrastructure challenges span container orchestration, sandboxing, distributed filesystems, cloud architecture, and database systems.
  • Your particular area of ownership will be developer experience and ops. You should expect this to take up less than 50% of your engineering time to start but be an area of passion and focus for you. You should be a strong overall engineer who has a knack for improving the productivity of those around you through tools and systems, particularly ones that tradeoff LLM tokens to get human time back.

What you bring.

  • AI-native engineer. You use AI coding agents every day and have built tooling, workflows, or integrations that made them more effective for a whole team, not just yourself.
  • Strong software engineering. 3+ years writing production code in Python, Go, or TypeScript. You can get productive in an unfamiliar codebase fast.
  • Developer tools builder. You’ve built internal tools or developer-experience improvements that other engineers actually adopted.
  • DevOps fluency. Hands-on experience with CI/CD, AWS or GCP, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code. You don’t need to be a career SRE, but you can own the pipeline.
  • Teacher and evangelist. You can show engineers a better way to work and get them to adopt it through demos, docs, and pairing rather than mandates.

How we work. This position is based in our San Francisco office; you'll work closely with science, partnerships, ops, and engineering. We have two key meetings each week, plus ad hoc ones as needed. The work is busy, and the schedule is flexible. We don't track when you're online, and PTO is unlimited. What matters is that projects ship well and on time, or early.

Culture. We believe in radical transparency: you'll know how the company is doing, what's working, and what isn't. It's always us against the problem, never each other. We're opinionated but respectful, and we bring solutions along with the problems. Come in at the time that works for you; just let the team know via slack if you'll be later than usual. We keep meetings to a minimum and judge people on innovation and output, not hours. Outside of work, we have company outings most months, team off-sites, latch run club, cycling, boxing, ice skating, and playing soccer together; feel free to add to the list.

Benefits

  • Base Salary ($170k- $250k)
  • Performance Bonus
  • Great Equity
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Every lunch and dinner is paid for
  • 100% premium covered on Cigna's platinum health plan ($0 premium, $0 deductible) and 50% premium coverage for dependents. 100% coverage for top-tier Guardian dental and vision plans
  • We sponsor most work visas
  • Relocation Assistance
  • 401(k) Plan
  • Company-Sponsored professional development
