Role Title: London - General Manager

About Madhappy

Madhappy is a Los Angeles-based clothing brand made for a community of optimists, born in 2017. Madhappy uses apparel, events, and experimental retail spaces to explore personal expression as a means to an improved state of mind. Its own flagship stores, with locations in West Hollywood, New York, Tokyo, Malibu, and Seoul, are each designed to reflect their site, while still sharing the brand’s DNA. The brand currently produces a selection of ever-evolving, evergreen classic styles, seasonally available collections and collaborations. Madhappy supports research and awareness in mental health through The Madhappy Foundation (a 501c(3) non-profit) and writes Local Optimist, a print magazine. Each to celebrate us as works-in-progress, and the personal and collective expression that is a part of that.

The Opportunity

Madhappy is seeking a full-time UK General Manager to lead our business in the United Kingdom, starting with our first London flagship and its in-store cafe, Pantry by Madhappy. This role reports directly to our VP of Retail.

Our Retail Team is at the center of the Madhappy experience. Through meaningful customer interactions, thoughtful product knowledge, and attention to the in-store environment, our associates bring the brand to life every day.

The Role

In this role, you’ll own the UK business end to end. Retail and Pantry are the core of the job: driving store performance, building the team, and creating an exceptional customer experience. You’ll also work with our ecommerce and warehouse teams on how UK customers shop online and how product reaches the UK. You must be based in or willing to move to London to be considered for this position.

As the UK General Manager, you will:

Own the UK P&L and sales targets across retail, Pantry, and UK ecommerce, and report results to leadership.

Build the plan to grow the UK business and adjust it based on traffic, conversion, and repeat-customer data.

Lead the opening of our first London flagship with the HQ teams, from hiring and training through launch.

Represent Madhappy in the UK with local partners, vendors, and the community.

Oversee all store operations, including inventory management, staffing, scheduling, and budgeting.

Oversee the day-to-day operations of Pantry by Madhappy alongside the Pantry Cafe Manager, keeping food and beverage, cleanliness, and service standards high.

Use the cafe space to attract foot traffic and create opportunities for cross-selling Madhappy products.

Take ownership of profit and loss management, identifying areas to reduce costs without compromising quality or service.

Lead, mentor, and inspire the store team to meet and exceed sales targets, ensuring a results-driven environment.

Provide ongoing coaching to improve sales techniques, customer service, and overall team performance.

Hire and build the UK team, starting with the London store and Pantry, with people aligned with Madhappy’s values and mission.

Ensure effective training in sales techniques, customer service, and product knowledge to optimize team performance.

Own and drive the store’s clienteling program to build strong relationships and increase repeat customer visits.

Ensure a high level of customer service at all times, leading by example and addressing customer needs quickly and professionally.

Cultivate a personalized shopping experience that resonates with our brand values of optimism.

Partner with the ecommerce team on UK online sales, delivery, and returns, so shopping in store and online feels the same.

Work with operations and the warehouse on UK inventory, stock levels, and replenishment for the store.

Share what UK customers ask for and what sells, to inform buying and allocation.

Collaborate to ensure merchandise displays and store presentation align with sales and marketing strategies.

Regularly assess inventory to identify slow-moving products and implement strategies to move them.

The Qualifications

7+ years of retail management experience, including running a high-volume flagship or several stores.

Leadership experience in a Coffee or Food & Beverage environment is a plus.

Experience leading a brand’s business in a market or region, with full P&L responsibility.

Experience working closely with ecommerce and supply chain teams in an omnichannel retail business.

Proven track record of exceeding sales goals and driving profitability in a retail setting.

Strong experience in clienteling, and knowledge of the London retail market.

Right to work in the UK.

Passion for Madhappy’s mission and values, with a strong alignment with mental health advocacy.

Excited to build something new, with a lot of ownership and a small team at first.

Leads from the floor and keeps the team optimistic and focused on the customer.
