Quantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer II to develop, implement, and continuously improve the manufacturing processes used to build, integrate, and test our spacecraft.
This role is ideal for an experienced manufacturing engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and enjoys solving complex production challenges at the intersection of design, manufacturing, quality, and spacecraft integration. You will play a critical role in translating engineering designs into repeatable, efficient, and reliable manufacturing processes while supporting hardware from initial build through final integration and test.
Where You’ll Make an Impact
Translate engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and schematics into detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing routings, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and technician work instructions
Provide hands-on lineside and cleanroom manufacturing support for spacecraft structures, avionics, harness routing, thermal systems, payloads, and other integrated hardware
Develop, procure, validate, and commission custom manufacturing tooling, precision alignment fixtures, assembly aids, and hardware handling equipment
Lead Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and partner with quality and engineering teams to disposition discrepant hardware and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
Partner with design engineering early in the New Product Introduction (NPI) process to drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), influencing component geometry, tolerances, material selection, and assembly sequences
Identify and resolve manufacturing constraints, production bottlenecks, and hardware integration challenges
Drive yield improvements, cycle-time reductions, scrap elimination, and factory-floor optimization using Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
Support the transition of new hardware and processes from engineering development into repeatable production
Develop manufacturing processes that meet quality, safety, configuration-control, and AS9100 requirements
Use production data and lessons learned from hardware builds to improve manufacturing processes and provide actionable feedback to engineering teams
What It Takes
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related STEM discipline
5+ years of direct manufacturing engineering experience supporting aerospace, spacecraft, satellite systems, or complex electromechanical hardware production
Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, routings, BOMs, and production documentation
Hands-on experience supporting hardware assembly, integration, and test in a production or development environment
Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, CATIA V5/V6, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar engineering design tools
Experience working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and/or manufacturing configuration-management systems
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering drawings, and tolerance stack-up analysis
Experience designing or developing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and/or precision alignment equipment
Familiarity with cleanroom protocols, electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls, and contamination-control practices
Hands-on experience with electronic box builds, harness assembly, spacecraft structures, thermal systems, propulsion systems, or similar complex hardware integration
Experience supporting Root Cause/Corrective Action investigations and resolving manufacturing non-conformances
Understanding of AS9100 or comparable aerospace quality-management systems
Strong data-driven problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions
Strong project-management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hardware-development environment
Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technicians, engineers, quality, supply chain, and program teams
Ability and willingness to work hands-on with flight hardware on the production floor and in cleanroom environments
Nice-to-Have Experience
Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Experience manufacturing, assembling, integrating, or testing spacecraft or satellite systems
Experience supporting spacecraft Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T/AIT) activities
Experience with spacecraft structures, avionics, electrical harnesses, thermal systems, propulsion systems, or payload integration
Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and transitioning hardware from prototype or development builds into production
Demonstrated application of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles
Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement training or certification
Experience with process capability, statistical process control, yield analysis, or other manufacturing data-analysis methods
Experience developing factory layouts, production-flow strategies, or manufacturing capacity plans
Familiarity with aerospace configuration management, traceability, and flight-hardware documentation requirements
