Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

You will:

Lead the design, release, and delivery of components and subsystems, from concept through production, required to integrate self-driving systems into a vehicle;

Design and develop mechanical structural mounting systems and cosmetic exterior enclosures for self driving vehicle hardware integration (for e.g. Radar, Cameras, Lidar, Antennas);

Identify optimum materials (for e.g. Aluminum, Steel, Polymers), and manufacturing processes for aforementioned systems (for e.g. die casting, extrusions, injection molding, compression molding, vacuum forming, paint) ;

Ensure on-time delivery of these systems and components against program targets for cost, weight, structural performance, craftsmanship, NVH, squeak & rattle, fit/finish;

Execute quality and robustness activities such as DFMEA and DVP&R;

Collaborate with multiple departments including attribute leads, cross functional engineering teams, test engineers, manufacturing and assembly teams as well as other stakeholders including our OEM partners;

While working with the Global Supply Chain Team, support source selection activities including writing RFP’s and evaluating suppliers and quotes in order to ensure timely delivery of hardware for vehicle build activities;

Utilize CAD tools (CATIA V6 / ENOVIA) and perform or direct CAD design personnel on packaging, integrating, and detailing components; and

Support vehicle prototype and production build activities, ensuring proper fit and function of components, and resolving issues.

You have:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 10 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or or in a Mechanical Engineering related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 8 years of experience in the job offered or in a Mechanical Engineering related occupation.

Position requires 8 years of experience in the following:

Design of structural and cosmetic automotive exterior components using a variety of materials and manufacturing processes, for example, aluminum castings, injection moldings, composites;

Integration of self driving vehicle hardware/sensors (cameras, Radar, Lidar, antennas) for requirements such as field of views and mounting stiffness;

CAD design tools (Catia V5/V6 preferred) focusing on 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation, and relevant processes for data management and release (Enovia preferred);

Developing solutions for both low volume (<20000 units per year) and high volume (>300000 units per year) automotive programs; and
