About the role

Original posting from Atom Computing via Lever

At Atom Computing, we build quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms that will empower customers to achieve unprecedented computational breakthroughs. Join a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum computing.

We are seeking a Planning & Configuration Control Manager to own Manufacturing schedules and controlled build records for neutral-atom quantum computers. This role keeps material readiness, subsystem production, system integration, and configuration changes aligned across first-of-a-kind and repeat builds.

Help establish how Atom plans, coordinates, and tracks quantum-computer builds as we create a new manufacturing organization. You'll bring the teams and build information together from the start, shaping a planning and configuration-control function that can grow with the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead build planning, configuration control, and manufacturing data management; establish clear ownership of schedules, work packages, and release records.
  • Maintain resource-loaded plans covering material readiness, subsystem builds, System Integration & Test (SI&T), and the separate Quantum Engineering verification phase.
  • Coordinate qualified personnel, shared instruments, benches, and system rooms; identify conflicts and develop recovery plans with department managers.
  • Translate milestones into material need dates, work-package releases, inspection gates, and handoffs; report critical-path changes and readiness gaps.
  • Control engineering and manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, test procedures, revisions, and approved changes with Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Maintain traceability between installed hardware, serial identities, firmware/software versions, and build/test evidence for each system configuration.
  • Establish controlled repository and approval workflows; verify complete as-built and as-tested records at subsystem and system handoffs.
  • Align planning, configuration, and NetSuite records through consistent identifiers and workflows; coordinate cross-functional dependencies with the PMO Manufacturing TPM.

Experience & Education:

  • BS in engineering, manufacturing, operations, supply chain, or a related field, or equivalent relevant planning and configuration-management experience.
  • 10+ years in production planning, resource-loaded scheduling, or hardware configuration management, including experience across both schedule and configuration disciplines.
  • 3+ years leading configuration-control function for low-volume, high-complexity equipment.
  • Experience managing concurrent prototypes and repeat builds with hardware/software configuration records; quantum-computing, photonics, or scientific-instrument experience preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Strong resource-loaded scheduling, critical-path analysis, and capacity-planning skills for concurrent hardware builds and shared test resources.
  • Knowledge of multi-level BOMs, revision control, change applicability, and as-built/as-tested configuration records.
  • Ability to maintain hardware, firmware, software, and test-method.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management, ERP, document-control, and scheduling tools; Smartsheet, Jira, Confluence, and NetSuite familiarity preferred.
  • Clear readiness reporting and disciplined follow-through across Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and PMO.
