Who this role is best for

A natural match if you have hands-on bare metal infrastructure experience and a track record in automating server provisioning and deployment.

Best fit for

  • Candidates with 3+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles and a history of managing physical servers
    — “3+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering”
  • Individuals who prioritize system ownership and automation over stack-specific expertise
    — “We care more about ownership, intensity, and learning speed than about a perfect match on today's stack.”
  • Professionals with experience in Linux system administration and configuration management tools
    — “Deep Linux fundamentals, including systemd, networking, storage, and performance tuning”

Things to consider

  • The role requires a strong security mindset and understanding of access control and secrets management
    — “A security mindset: you think about access, blast radius, and secrets by default”
  • Candidates must be prepared for on-call responsibilities and incident response
    — “Improve observability for the infrastructure you own, and take part in on-call and incident response”

How to stand out

  • Highlight automation projects and infrastructure tooling you've built or maintained
    — “Build and maintain the tooling engineers use to interact with the fleet”
  • Demonstrate your ability to standardize deployment and CI/CD processes across teams
    — “Standardize how we build and deploy software to machines: CI pipelines, artifacts, deploy tooling, and rollbacks”

ABOUT HELIUS

Helius is a leading developer platform on the Solana blockchain, dedicated to inspiring and accelerating the creation of crypto-powered software. Customers like Coinbase, Jupiter, and Phantom use Helius to power their applications on Solana.

We’ve raised over $34m https://www.helius.dev/blog/funding-announcement from Haun Ventures, Founders Fund, Foundation Capital, 6th Man Ventures, Reciprocal Ventures, Chapter One and angel investors including Solana co-founders Anatoly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal, and Balaji Srinivasan. Our team members have previously built mission-critical, scalable infrastructure at AWS, Coinbase, Stripe, Google, Digital Ocean, and more.

Read our Helius Manifesto https://www.helius.dev/blog/manifesto to see how we work and what we value.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Helius runs its global edge network and high-performance services directly on bare metal. It's a deliberate choice for performance and cost, and it means the machines, the network, and the tooling that ties them together are ours to get right. This role joins our Platform team to make that fleet faster to provision, safer to access, cheaper to run, and boring to deploy to.

You'll work across the foundation everything else at Helius depends on: automating how servers get spun up and configured, standardizing how software gets built and shipped to machines, and executing on our engineering security roadmap. This is an intermediate role with a lot of room to grow. We care more about ownership, intensity, and learning speed than about a perfect match on today's stack.

No crypto background is needed. If you've run serious infrastructure anywhere, we'll teach you the blockchain parts.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Automate the server lifecycle end to end: provisioning, OS installs, configuration, hardware validation, and decommissioning
  • Build and maintain the tooling engineers use to interact with the fleet, so nobody hand-configures a machine twice
  • Standardize how we build and deploy software to machines: CI pipelines, artifacts, deploy tooling, and rollbacks
  • Execute security roadmap items alongside our security lead: SSO-integrated access, jump hosts, secrets management, least-privilege access, and audit trails
  • Run cost analysis across the fleet, including cost per workload, provider comparisons, and hardware refresh decisions, and turn it into recommendations
  • Improve observability for the infrastructure you own, and take part in on-call and incident response
  • Write clear runbooks and docs so the rest of a remote team can operate what you build

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Extreme ownership: you treat the systems you touch as yours, see problems through to the fix, and automate yourself out of repetitive work rather than living with it. You work the way our Manifesto describes (fast, direct, low-ego, and accountable), and that matters to us more than any single item below.
  • 3+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering
  • Hands-on bare metal experience, such as provisioning and managing physical servers (PXE, IPMI/BMC, RAID, NICs), working with colo or dedicated-server providers, and debugging hardware versus software issues
  • Deep Linux fundamentals, including systemd, networking, storage, and performance tuning
  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Salt, Nix)
  • Solid scripting or programming ability in Python, Go, Bash, or similar
  • A security mindset: you think about access, blast radius, and secrets by default, not as an afterthought

NICE TO HAVE

  • Rust experience, or interest in reading and debugging Rust services
  • High-performance networking or low-latency systems experience
  • Familiarity with ClickHouse, Prometheus, or Grafana
  • Experience at a high-scale B2B infrastructure company

WHY HELIUS?

  • High-impact work: Your code will power applications used by millions across the Solana ecosystem, including Coinbase, Jupiter, and Phantom.
  • Serious engineering: Build fast, reliable systems and user experiences across distributed infra, high-throughput backends, and modern frontend stacks.
  • Ownership & growth: Lead critical initiatives, influence architecture and product direction, and take on more responsibility as the company scales.
  • Remote-first flexibility: Work where you’re most effective with a flexible, fully distributed team.
  • Competitive comp & perks: Market-leading salary, meaningful equity, generous vacation, wellness budgets, and support for learning and travel.
  • Mission-driven team: Join ambitious builders who move fast, take ownership, and are shaping the future of decentralized apps.
