ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for an exceptional Product Designer to define what consumer healthcare should feel like. Counsel is leading the way to a world where every person has a trusted, AI-enabled doctor in their pocket. You’ll design that experience end-to-end, from a patient’s first question through advice, prescriptions, labs, and referrals.

Healthcare has never been held to a consumer bar; most of it feels institutional, confusing, and cold. You’ll change that. Joining on the ground floor with real early traction, you’ll help shape the core patient experience by setting the visual, interaction, and motion standards that define our product. You’ll play a critical role crafting a product that patients trust with their health, as considered and alive as the best consumer products they use every day.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Shape the core experience of receiving care, from education and advice through prescriptions, labs, referrals, and follow-ups across our mobile and web surfaces
  • Set and continually raise the bar for visual, interaction, and motion craft, sweating the micro-interactions, transitions, and details that make an experience feel trustworthy & considered
  • Develop a deep understanding of patient and clinical needs, and translate the messy reality of healthcare into simple, intuitive experiences
  • Leverage cutting-edge tools to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on innovative 0→1 experiences, moving fast from concept to polished execution
  • Build and evolve our product design system and interaction patterns so craft and consistency scale as the team grows
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and clinical teams

WHO YOU ARE

  • You’ve shipped consumer products people love, ideally in early-stage startups or high-growth, dynamic environments
  • You’re an early adopter of the latest design tools: Claude, Paper, Remotion, etc. You’re producing high quality work while reimagining how we work
  • You’re AI-native, you’re building tools to automate the routine parts of your work so you can focus on the highest impact areas
  • You’re technical. Code may not be your primary medium, but you’re fluent enough to prototype in it and collaborate deeply with engineers.
  • You care deeply about people and creating positive outcomes for their health

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • 3+ years of consumer-focused product design experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates an exceptionally high bar for visual design
  • Mastery of interaction design and a strong point of view on motion. you know how timing, transitions, and feel build (or break) trust in a product
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and moving confidently to bring new features to life 0→1
  • Consumer sensibilities: taste shaped by the best consumer products, and the judgment to know what delight means in a healthcare context
  • Effective communication skills. You’re able to work cross-functionally. You calibrate to your audience, resolve open questions, and create momentum.

ROLE LOCATION

NYC - hybrid, Boston - hybrid, or East Coast - remote

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Impact: Be at the forefront and contribute to groundbreaking, AI-driven healthcare experiences, directly interface with execs at the world's leading tech & healthcare orgs
  • Growth: Significant opportunities for broad ownership and professional development within our rapidly scaling startup
  • Compensation: Competitive salary + equity
  • Benefits: Comprehensive healthcare, vision + dental, 401K, Unlimited PTO, Parental Leave

OUR VALUES

  • Patients come first.

We are clinicians 1st, technologists 2nd. We act with patient trust/safety at the center of every decision.

  • Innovate with optimism.

We are optimistic as we build the future of care delivery from first principles. Challenge the status quo when needed, no sacred cows.

  • Right answer wins.

Debate openly and pick the strongest path. We optimize for the company, not functions. We win and lose as a team.

  • Do fewer things, well.

We focus, and hold ourselves to the highest bar and pursue excellence in those areas.
