About the role

About Lumafield:

Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.

We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.

Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.

We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and powerful insights. And then we'll upgrade it all again.

Lumafield is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. and has an office in Cambridge, MA.

What you'll do::

  • Inspect incoming parts and assemblies against engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection plans using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other appropriate inspection tools. Record results and verify required supplier documentation.
  • Investigate in-process quality issues by inspecting affected parts, gathering measurements and photos, and working with production technicians and Engineering to understand the cause and support corrective actions.
  • Process Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs): document defects and supporting evidence, coordinate with Supply Chain and suppliers, track responses and due dates, and support verification of corrective actions before closure.
  • Identify, label, and segregate nonconforming material; maintain accurate nonconformance records; and coordinate disposition with authorized team members.
  • Maintain inspection records and quality logs, flag recurring defects, and help improve inspection instructions and checks in collaboration with Manufacturing and Engineering.

About you::

  • 2+ years of experience in quality inspection, a quality technician role, or a related hands-on manufacturing role.
  • Can read engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions and evaluate parts against defined acceptance criteria.
  • Have hands-on experience using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools, and understand the importance of proper handling and calibration status.
  • Are curious and methodical when troubleshooting problems, and know when to ask questions or escalate an issue.
  • Can clearly document defects, measurements, and investigation findings with written descriptions and photos.
  • Can organize daily inspection priorities and follow up on open quality issues and supplier actions.
  • Are comfortable working directly with production technicians, engineers, supply chain team members, and suppliers.
  • Are comfortable using spreadsheets and digital systems to record inspection results and track quality issues.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent; technical training or an associate degree is a plus. An engineering degree is not required.

Bonus::

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality management system and maintaining inspection or nonconformance records.
  • Experience processing SCARs, communicating with suppliers about defects, or supporting root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
