About the role

Original posting from Qualitate via Ashby

Enterprise technology is our largest and fastest-moving area of coverage, and demand for our research there is growing faster than we can produce it. That gap is why this role exists. You’ll join our Enterprise Tech team and cover software, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data & AI, and IT services. You’ll write the research investors and corporate strategy teams use to judge where enterprise IT budgets are going, which vendors are winning and losing, and how fast AI is moving from pilots into production spend.

You’ll learn the sector from two sources: the domain expert who leads it, and the thousands of transcripts we collect from CIOs, CISOs, IT decision-makers, and other senior operators who buy and deploy enterprise technology. Institutions pay for that data to get up to speed on the space, and you’ll be analyzing it from day one. We’re hiring for analytical ability, writing quality, and speed of learning. Over time, you’ll build real depth and rigor, and you’ll own sub-sectors of your own.

What the day-to-day looks like

  • Use our proprietary datasets to build company and market analyses across enterprise tech: application software, infrastructure and hyperscalers, security, data platforms, AI/LLM vendors, and IT services. You’ll work under the sector lead at first and own more of the coverage over time.
  • Track the signals that drive the sector, including IT budget intentions, vendor consolidation and displacement, seat and consumption trends, pricing and renewal dynamics, and AI adoption and spend. Turn them into quantified, time-series views of who is gaining share and why.
  • Turn data collection studies into client-ready outputs, such as quantified findings, charts, vendor scorecards, and written takeaways that investors can use ahead of earnings and corporate teams can use in planning.
  • Build forward-looking analyses on emerging themes, such as agentic AI, security platformization, cloud optimization cycles, and the effect of AI on seat-based software models, and form a view before the market does.
  • Write for our newsletter and client communications so that Qualitate is a go-to voice on enterprise tech.
  • Support client and prospect conversations through calls, webinars, and events, and learn to lead them over time.
  • Shape how we study enterprise tech: design survey and interview frameworks for buyer behavior, and partner with product and engineering to keep our methodology best-in-class.
  • Grow into a coverage area of your own within enterprise tech. We’ll help you find the space where your judgment compounds fastest.

Who This Role Is For

  • 1–3 years of professional experience in data-driven research, such as equity research, financial analysis, market research, and/or consulting. Exposure to software, internet, semiconductors, or IT services coverage is a strong plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with enterprise software economics (ARR, net revenue retention, consumption vs. seat-based pricing, sales cycles), or the ability to pick it up quickly.
  • An understanding of the fundamental research workflow, from how funds source ideas and build conviction through primary research to how they size positions and manage risk, or an eagerness to learn it quickly.
  • Real curiosity about how enterprises buy and adopt technology. You should enjoy following the full stack, from infrastructure to applications, and be able to reach a credible working knowledge of a new category quickly.
  • Clear communication. Long-form and short-form writing skills are required. You must be able to synthesize data into digestible, forward-looking insights, and you should be comfortable presenting your work to investors and strategy clients.
  • Heavy experimentation with AI. You test and refine AI tools and agents as they ship, build them into your daily workflows, automate pieces of your own job to raise your productivity, and share what you learn with your team. In this coverage area, that hands-on experience doubles as sector insight.

What Sets You Apart

  • You learn and iterate quickly. For this role, this is the single most important thing. You’ll work alongside accomplished professionals across research, product, and engineering. Pick up what they know and put it to use, and teach them what you know that they don’t.
  • A strong sense of ownership. This is not just a supporting seat. You’ll be handed more scope than your years of experience would suggest. We expect you to take work from question to published output rather than wait to be assigned the next step.
  • An analytical mind. You get excited about diving into a large semi-structured dataset to find key inflections and generate new ideas. You’re proficient at managing and analyzing large datasets, and SQL experience is strongly preferred.
  • You use AI for both speed and rigor. You use AI to get up to speed on a space faster and to go deeper than you otherwise could: pressure-testing ideas, automating the analyses you never had time for, and expanding what one analyst can rigorously cover. In a sector as broad and fast-moving as enterprise tech, that leverage is what makes real depth possible.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $130k–$170k+
  • Bonus: Variable, based on goals achieved at the company, team, and individual levels
  • Equity: Meaningful early-stage grant with upside tied to company growth
  • Benefits: Health coverage, flexible PTO, paid holidays
  • Location: Full-time, in-person in New York City

  • High velocity. A fast-paced environment for growth, decision-making, and time to impact.
  • High agency. Ownership over how you work, not just what you work on. We hire people we trust to figure it out.

  • Shared ambition. A small, early team disrupting the multi-billion-dollar market research industry with AI.
  • Joy. We work hard and enjoy working with each other. Our dedication to our work is matched only by our passion for an enjoyable, collaborative work environment.
