SDK Platform Engineer

Faraday Future
El Segundo, CA
On-site

Who this role is best for

Best suited to candidates with hardware-software integration experience working in robotics and embodied-AI domains, who are comfortable with multi-vendor systems and real hardware deployment.

Best fit for

  • Candidates with hands-on embedded systems and robotics project experience, especially those who have built SDKs or developer platforms.
    — “Experience building software that other people depend on (SDKs, libraries, APIs) or embedded / hardware-software systems”
  • Individuals who can work across both hardware bring-up and full-stack web development for developer tools.
    — “build the developer platform and developer tools (Skill Store, Console, and content creation tools) end to end, from the web frontend and backend services through to verification on real robots”
  • Candidates with a strong background in Linux development and robotics middleware who are also capable of cross-disciplinary work.
    — “Strong familiarity with Linux development and deployment (systemd, networking, log forensics) and at least one robotics middleware or communication stack (ROS 2 / DDS / MQTT / zenoh / gRPC)”

Things to consider

  • The role requires on-site hardware bring-up and debugging, which may limit remote flexibility.
    — “Hands-on with real devices: able to bring up hardware, integrate vendor protocols, and diagnose failures on site”
  • Candidates must be prepared to work with multiple vendors and ensure compatibility across hardware platforms.
    — “unified abstraction layers over multi-vendor hardware”

How to stand out

  • Highlight experience with edge-AI deployment and motion policy training on physical robots.
    — “train, evaluate, and deploy motion policies on real robots”
  • Emphasize full-stack web development skills, especially with React, TypeScript, and FastAPI.
    — “Full-stack web development experience for the developer platform and tools: frontend (React / TypeScript or similar) and backend services and APIs (Python / FastAPI, Node.js, or similar)”
  • Showcase ability to write and validate production-grade code with testing frameworks.
    — “Top-notch Python or C / C++ skills, at the level of production code with tests”
  • Demonstrate open-source contributions or community involvement in robotics or developer tools.
    — “Open-source contributions, technical writing, or developer-community experience”
  • Include specific examples of hardware bring-up, sensor integration, and protocol debugging.
    — “able to bring up hardware, integrate vendor protocols, and diagnose failures on site”

About the role

Original posting from Faraday Future via Greenhouse

Your Role:

This is a hardware-software integration role on our embodied-AI robotics platform. You will develop and validate our robot SDK across humanoid and quadruped robots from multiple vendors, own edge-side integration and hardware bring-up (compute boards, sensors and buses, on-device inference), and build the developer platform and developer tools (Skill Store, Console, and content creation tools) end to end, from the web frontend and backend services through to verification on real robots. As the roadmap advances, you will also build simulation environments and train, evaluate, and deploy motion policies on real robots. Every interface you write ends up running on real hardware and being called by third-party developers, so a success return code is never our definition of done.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Experience building software that other people depend on (SDKs, libraries, APIs) or embedded / hardware-software systems. No minimum years required; new graduates with strong hands-on embedded or robotics project work are welcome to apply

Proven knowledge + expertise, and passion for robotics software, hardware-software integration, and developer platforms

Top-notch Python or C / C++ skills, at the level of production code with tests

Strong familiarity with Linux development and deployment (systemd, networking, log forensics) and at least one robotics middleware or communication stack (ROS 2 / DDS / MQTT / zenoh / gRPC)

Hands-on with real devices: able to bring up hardware, integrate vendor protocols, and diagnose failures on site

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven expertise with unified abstraction layers over multi-vendor hardware, and with conformance or certification test suites that outside parties have to pass

A diverse skillset including embedded debugging (I2C / SPI / UART / CAN / USB, logic analyzer, oscilloscope), edge-AI deployment (quantization, ONNX / TensorRT / NPU), and service operations (containers, CI/CD, reverse proxy, monitoring)

A wide range of experience with robot simulation (MuJoCo / Isaac / Gazebo), reinforcement or imitation learning carried through to a physical robot, motion retargeting, or humanoid whole-body control

Experience with developer platforms, SDK releases, documentation sites, or app and plugin marketplaces

Full-stack web development experience for the developer platform and tools: frontend (React / TypeScript or similar) and backend services and APIs (Python / FastAPI, Node.js, or similar) backed by a relational database such as PostgreSQL

Experience shipping production web products: accounts and sign-in (OAuth / OIDC), file and package upload / download, usage quotas, cloud deployment (AWS, object storage), and frontend testing

Rust or C++ experience (some runtime components are written in Rust / C++)

Comfortable working from schematics and datasheets; power, battery management, or thermal experience is a plus

Open-source contributions, technical writing, or developer-community experience

A habit of verifying before concluding, and a conservative approach to anything that moves real hardware

A creative curiosity, collaborative ethic, hardworking enthusiasm, and driving personal vision

Excellent communication skills and team-working tendencies

A penchant for multi-tasking and self-starting

A genuine fascination for the robotics and embodied-AI field and a commitment to global change

A true sense of determination… and hopefully a sense of humor

Salary Range:

$80,000 - $120,000

 Perks + Benefits

Healthcare + dental + vision benefits (Free for you/discounted for family)

401(k) options

Casual dress code + relaxed work environment

Culturally diverse, progressive atmosphere
