About the role

Original posting from ispace, inc. via Lever

ispace is seeking a Senior Avionics Design Engineer to lead the development of spacecraft avionics hardware for lunar landers, satellites, and future space systems. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for the full lifecycle of avionics hardware, from requirements definition and design through manufacturing, testing, qualification, and flight support.

The successful candidate will own key avionics products, drive technical decisions, solve complex engineering challenges, and mentor other engineers while working closely with multidisciplinary spacecraft teams.

Our teams work bilingually and Japanese and/or English ability is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Own the full lifecycle of spacecraft avionics hardware, from requirements definition and design through implementation, manufacturing, integration, verification, qualification, and flight support.

Lead gate reviews and technical milestones, including coordinating required inputs across disciplines, developing review documentation and compliance evidence, presenting technical content, and driving review actions through closure.

Lead technical execution for avionics products, making key design decisions, conducting trade-off studies, resolving complex technical issues, and ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance requirements are met.

Collaborate across spacecraft disciplines, including flight software, communications, power, propulsion, GNC, payloads, and system engineering teams to coordinate technical interfaces, drive issue resolution, and achieve system-level review and delivery milestones.

Support project execution, including planning, risk management, procurement activities, supplier coordination, and technical stakeholder engagement.

Provide technical leadership across the avionics team, by supporting other avionics engineers in technical decision-making, design reviews, problem resolution, and the delivery of high-quality engineering products, while contributing to engineering best practices, knowledge sharing, and the development of other engineers.

Leadership Expectations:

You are a hands-on technical leader who:

Takes responsibility for technical outcomes, schedule commitments, and delivery of assigned avionics products.

Balances performance, reliability, cost, and schedule in engineering decisions.

Demonstrates strong technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Leads technical problem solving, root cause investigations, and issue resolution activities.

Contributes to the growth, effectiveness, and success of the wider engineering team through technical leadership and guidance.

Required Qualifications:

University degree in Electrical Engineering.

7+ years of experience developing electronic hardware for aerospace, space, defense, automotive, industrial, or other high-reliability systems.

Experience with the full hardware development lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, verification, testing, qualification, and production support.

Demonstrated ability to lead technical activities, take ownership of complex hardware developments, and work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Business level Japanese or English (preferable to have both)
