About the role

WHO WE ARE

Edmentum is a dynamic educator and student-focused company dedicated to tech-enabled learning solutions. Our goal is to ensure that all students have access to flexible learning environments and educators have the tools they need to support their students. We are on a mission to create innovative, proven learning technology, partnering with educators to ignite student potential. We are a Remote First organization with a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

Edmentum is looking for its next Senior Corporate Counsel: the attorney our General Counsel trusts with the company's most complex commercial deals, and the partner business leaders call before a problem becomes one. You'll own commercial contracting at a company serving millions of students, and you'll shape how Edmentum manages risk, protects student data, and adopts AI responsibly. This is not a review-and-route role; you will own the deal table. Day to day, that might mean negotiating a multi-year SaaS agreement with a large school district in the morning, advising Product on the privacy posture of a new AI feature after lunch, and helping People and Culture work through a thorny employment question before you log off. The breadth is real (we’ll be honest: four practice areas keep the weeks full, and the rhythm follows the sales calendar), but so is the trust, the autonomy, and the direct line to decision-makers. You'll be part dealmaker, part counselor, fully essential to how Edmentum grows.

In this role you will:

Negotiate SaaS, software licensing, customer, vendor, and services agreements from first draft through signature.

Build and sharpen the templates, playbooks, and approval standards that make contracting faster and more consistent across the company.

Counsel teams on federal, state, and international privacy requirements, including the student data protections unique to education.

Partner with Product, Technology, and Security to evaluate AI use cases and shape Edmentum's responsible AI governance.

Serve as the day-to-day employment law advisor to People and Culture and business leaders across a multistate remote workforce.

Spot material legal risks early and bring the General Counsel clear options, not just problems.

Manage outside counsel and support strategic transactions, from contract due diligence through integration.

Who You Are

You bring 10 or more years of post-admission experience across law firm and in-house settings, with deep responsibility for commercial and technology transactions.

You have first-chair experience negotiating sophisticated SaaS, licensing, services, and data protection agreements with enterprise counterparties.

You know U.S. data privacy and security law well and can turn it into practical, deal-ready contracting guidance.

You are comfortable counseling People and Culture and business leaders on employment matters, and you know when to bring in outside counsel.

You make complex legal issues understandable and actionable for non-lawyers.

You are commercially minded and solutions oriented, with the confidence to own negotiations and the judgment to escalate.

You have worked in education technology, software, digital learning, or another data-intensive regulated industry, a strong plus.

You understand the education sector's privacy landscape, including student data requirements, a strong plus.

You have hands-on experience with responsible AI governance and AI contracting issues, a strong plus.

You hold a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.

You can travel occasionally, generally less than 10 percent of the time.

You are willing to take on evolving responsibilities based on business needs.

You are based in or near the Minneapolis–St. Paul area (preferred), to join the General Counsel and other leaders in person from time to time while working remotely day to day.
