ROLE DESCRIPTION

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Industrial Engineer to join our team at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV. In this role, you will own the factory’s physical layout and the standard work behind it. You will define how material, people, and equipment flow through the facility today and plan how that flow grows as we scale production. You will partner with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Facilities to establish time standards, eliminate waste, and plan for future capacity.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission! Relocation assistance is available.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Layout Management: Own and maintain the Form Factory 1 floor layout, including equipment placement, material flow, workstation design, storage, and walkways. Manage layout change requests and keep layout drawings and documentation current.
  • Time Studies & Labor Standards: Conduct time and motion studies, develop and maintain standard work and labor standards, and use them to support line balancing, takt time analysis, and headcount planning.
  • Future Site Planning: Lead capacity and layout planning for factory expansion and new production lines. This includes space planning, equipment footprints, utilities and material-handling needs, and phased ramp scenarios.
  • Capacity & Throughput Modeling: Build and maintain capacity models and, where useful, discrete-event simulations. Use them to identify bottlenecks, quantify constraints, and evaluate the impact of design and layout decisions before implementation.
  • Process Improvement: Apply lean and continuous improvement methods (value stream mapping, 5S, kaizen, SMED, root cause analysis) to reduce waste, cycle time, and rework, and improve safety and ergonomics.
  • Material Flow & Logistics: Design efficient material flow, line-side presentation, kitting, and inventory staging. Work with Supply Chain and Production Planning to reduce travel, handling, and WIP.
  • Ergonomics & Safety: Evaluate workstations and tasks for ergonomic risk. Partner with EHS to design safe, efficient work areas that meet company and regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead small projects and cross-functional working sessions, communicate trade-offs clearly, and mentor junior engineers and technicians in industrial engineering practices.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on experience in layout design, time studies, and process improvement.
  • Layout & Facility Planning: Demonstrated experience developing and managing factory layouts, ideally using CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio, Revit) and taking facility expansions from concept to implementation.
  • Work Measurement: Proficiency in time and motion studies, standard work development, line balancing, and labor modeling.
  • Lean & Continuous Improvement: Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools. Certification (Green Belt or higher) is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis and modeling skills, with the ability to turn complex data into clear recommendations. Experience with Excel, SQL, Python, or simulation software (e.g., FlexSim, Simio) is a plus.
  • Technical Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to work effectively with the production floor, engineers, and senior leaders.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
