Senior Mechanical Engineer

Triumph
Mountain View, US
On-site

Who this role is best for

Candidates with hands-on mechanical design experience and a background in manufacturing will find this hands-on, cross-functional role in the hardware development lifecycle.

Best fit for

  • Candidates with hands-on mechanical design experience and a background in manufacturing
    — “You'll help set the direction on mechanical architecture, make the calls that constrain everything downstream”
  • Candidates who can bridge design and practical implementation in hardware testing and maintenance
    — “Work out of our warehouse in Fremont, CA on testing, bring up, maintenance, and repair of hardware in service”

Things to consider

  • The role requires relocation to Fremont, CA, despite being initially listed as Mountain View
    — “located at our warehouse in Mountain View that will soon be relocating to Fremont, CA”
  • A significant portion of the role involves maintenance and repair, not just design
    — “Comfort in the shop and in the field. You're willing to do maintenance and repair work alongside design work.”

How to stand out

  • Highlight experience owning systems through production and real-world testing in your resume
    — “with a track record of systems you owned through production, not just through design review”
  • Showcase your ability to work directly with vendors and machine shops in your application materials
    — “Select processes, work directly with machine shops and vendors, and make the cost and lead time tradeoffs.”
  • Emphasize your hands-on test experience, including building fixtures and analyzing data
    — “Build, instrument, and run test rigs. Define what gets measured, analyze the data, and turn results into design changes.”
  • Demonstrate your fluency in CAD practices and manufacturing standards in your interview responses
    — “Set standards the team builds on: CAD practices, part numbering, revision control, test documentation, and the review process that catches problems early.”
  • Position yourself as a cross-functional collaborator with integration problem-solving skills
    — “Partner with engineers and cross-functional teams on integration, where most of the real problems live.”

About the role

Original posting from Triumph via Ashby

The Role

We're looking for a senior mechanical engineer who owns systems end to end: design, build, test, and all the parts in between. You'll help set the direction on mechanical architecture, make the calls that constrain everything downstream, and then be in the warehouse in Mountain View when the hardware needs to be run, measured, and fixed. This is a role for someone who has shipped physical products and knows what breaks between a clean CAD model and a working machine.

Please note that this role is located at our warehouse in Mountain View that will soon be relocating to Fremont, CA.

What You'll Do

  • Own mechanical design for major subsystems, from requirements through detailed design, tolerance analysis, and release.
  • Drive design for manufacturability and assembly. Select processes, work directly with machine shops and vendors, and make the cost and lead time tradeoffs.
  • Build, instrument, and run test rigs. Define what gets measured, analyze the data, and turn results into design changes.
  • Set standards the team builds on: CAD practices, part numbering, revision control, test documentation, and the review process that catches problems early.
  • Partner with engineers and cross-functional teams on integration, where most of the real problems live.
  • Work out of our warehouse in Fremont, CA on testing, bring up, maintenance, and repair of hardware in service.

What We're Looking For

  • 5 or more years designing and shipping mechanical hardware, with a track record of systems you owned through production, not just through design review.
  • Strong fundamentals: structural analysis, materials selection, GD and T, tolerance stack ups, and failure analysis.
  • Deep CAD command and real manufacturing fluency. You know what a machinist will call you about before they call.
  • Hands on test experience. You've built fixtures, instrumented hardware, and debugged problems that only show up on real parts.
  • Comfort in the shop and in the field. You're willing to do maintenance and repair work alongside design work.
