The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Ocean Planning Associate based in our Bangkok office, to take ownership of space planning, carrier booking, and allocation management for Flexport's Thailand export gateway focusing on the TPEB (Transpacific Eastbound) tradelane. You'll be at the center of coordination between our internal teams, carrier partners, and clients to ensure every container sails as planned.

This role is ideal for someone who's built strong relationships with carrier offices or has hands-on experience in carrier customer service. You'll combine operational excellence, market understanding, and a data-driven mindset to help us scale Flexport's ocean freight network efficiently.

What You Will Do

  • Ocean Planning & Execution

Manage the full cycle of shipment planning and bookings — from forecasting and allocation control to SO release.

Coordinate daily with Account Management, Procurement, Allocation & Yield, and carrier offices to secure capacity and protect critical shipments.

Maintain accurate space visibility across Flexport systems (e.g., FFA, Fulfillment Management Tool - FMT) and sailing schedules.

Drive optimal space utilization while ensuring compliance with carrier allocation rules and performance metrics.

  • Carrier Performance & Exception Handling

Serve as the first point of escalation for booking exceptions, space shortfalls, and service disruptions.

Leverage your relationships with carrier local offices to resolve issues quickly — SO pushes, equipment release, or rollover prevention.

Monitor carrier KPIs (on-time performance, equipment availability, service quality) and flag trends to Procurement and Operations Excellence teams.

  • Process Improvement & Market Insights

Identify workflow gaps and propose process enhancements to improve speed and accuracy.

Share market intelligence and seasonal trends across internal teams to support trade-lane strategy.

Partner with Product and Engineering to enhance planning tools and data automation.

What You Will Need

Bachelor's degree

5–7 years of experience in freight forwarding, ocean carrier operations, or logistics planning.

Proven track record of working closely with carrier local offices or directly in a carrier customer service role.

Strong understanding of TPEB tradelanes, allocation cycles, and equipment control.

Excellent communication skills in both Thai and English.

Detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and highly organized.

Proactive, data-driven problem solver who thrives in a fast-moving environment.

What You'll Gain

Skills you'll advance:

Designing processes and troubleshooting complex customer problems

Executing complex processes without missing adaptive opportunities

Building consensus among people with strong, differing opinions

Forming hypotheses, developing experiments, and framing problems

Solving problems through hypothesis-based root cause analysis

What you'll learn:

How to lead small teams in executing day-to-day tactical tasks

How to thrive in ambiguity, test operational hypotheses, and help shape a growing team's strategy

How to become a subject matter expert in ocean and network operations — the go-to advisor for clients, partners, and internal teams

How to continuously improve the client experience through deep industry understanding

Future paths this role can lead to:

Procurement or other specialist roles requiring deep supply chain expertise

Client advisory or account management, championing customer growth

Team leadership, developing as a player-coach who supports others' growth
