About the role

Original posting from Nuro

Who We Are

Nuro believes self-driving vehicles are the most immediate and profound opportunity for AI to drive positive change in the physical world. Safer streets, more time for what matters, and easier access to the world around us, that’s why we’re building a universal autonomy platform: self-driving for all roads and all rides.

Founded in 2016, Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology for a wide range of vehicles, use cases, and markets. Powered by the Nuro Driver™, our universal autonomy platform enables the global mobility ecosystem to deploy autonomy at scale, from robotaxis and logistics fleets to personal vehicles.

With years of real-world deployment experience and a flexible, partner-led business model, Nuro is working toward a future where millions of autonomous vehicles powered by our technology help make everyday life safer, easier, and more connected.

Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, Softbank, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and other leading investors.

About the Role

Nuro is looking for a Product Designer to help shape the tools, interfaces, and experiences that support the development and deployment of autonomous driving technology. This role sits at the intersection of product design, autonomy, simulation, developer tooling, and operational tooling. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and operators to turn complex technical systems into intuitive, elegant user experiences.

This role is best suited for a designer who is energized by technical depth, ambiguity, and the opportunity to design tools used by highly technical users. You will work across 2D interfaces, 3D environments, spatial workflows, data visualization, and internal systems that help teams understand, debug, evaluate, and improve performance.

About the Work

You have a portfolio that demonstrates strong product design craft, systems thinking, and experience solving complex user problems.

You have experience designing technical products, developer tools, enterprise software, robotics tools, simulation tools, geospatial products, gaming tools, automotive interfaces, or other complex software systems.

You have hands-on experience designing spatial, simulation, mapping, robotics, gaming, AR/VR, automotive, or visualization experiences.

You are comfortable designing for expert users and technical workflows, not just broad consumer use cases.

You can move fluidly between product strategy, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping.

You are strong in Figma and modern design workflows, and you can create clear specs that help engineering teams build effectively.

You are comfortable working with ambiguity and incomplete information, and you can make progress without needing every requirement fully defined upfront.

You are a strong story teller who can help focus collaboration well across functions, and can explain design rationale to engineering, product, and leadership audiences.

You have strong judgment, low ego, and a bias toward practical, high-quality execution.

About You

Experience designing complex software products for technical or expert users.

Demonstrated spatial, simulation, mapping, robotics, gaming, AR/VR, automotive, or data visualization design experience.

Strong portfolio showing product thinking, interaction design, visual design, and ability to simplify complex workflows.

Proficiency with Figma and modern design/prototyping tools.

Proficiency in leveraging AI tools and workflows to accelerate execution, enhance design craft, and navigate technical complexity.

Ability to partner closely with engineering teams and understand technical constraints.

Strong communication, collaboration, and storytelling skills.

Bonus Points

Experience with autonomy, robotics, AVs, simulation, mapping, geospatial tools, gaming engines, or real-time 3D environments.

Experience with tools such as Unity, Unreal, Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, Spline, Three.js, WebGL, or similar 3D workflows.

Experience designing developer tools, internal platforms, data-heavy workflows, or AI-enabled products.

Experience building or evolving design systems.

Background in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Architecture, Industrial Design, Game Design, or a related field.

At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $145,830 and $219,000 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.

At Nuro, we celebrate differences and are committed to a diverse workplace that fosters inclusion and psychological safety for all employees. Nuro is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and expressly prohibits any form of workplace discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics. #LI-DNP
