About the role

Original posting from Datavant

Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare. Guided by our mission to make the world’s health data secure, accessible and actionable, we provide critical data solutions for organizations across the healthcare ecosystem - including providers, health plans, researchers, and life sciences companies. From fulfilling a single patient’s request for their medical records to powering the AI revolution in healthcare, Datavanters are building the future of how data is connected and used to improve health.

By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a driven and highly collaborative team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare.

What We’re Looking For

The Senior Product Scientist serves as a contributing member of multiple product pods building and deploying scientific agents across the real-world evidence (RWE) study workflow.  The Senior Product Scientist partners with the Director of Product Science to ensure the scientific credibility and rigor of Datavant Life Sciences’ real-world evidence and data discovery agents. The Senior Product Scientist works as a contributing member of and responsible party within the product pods to ensure agent conceptualization, development, and evaluation meet the needs of Datavant’s scientific customers and the scientific standards of the Datavant science team. Specifically, the Senior Product Scientist works within product pods (e.g. algorithm builder, explore assistant) and with the Director of Product Science to deliver on the following in a responsible and/or supporting role:

Scientific agent conceptualization (e.g. why is the agent needed? and for whom?)

Scientific problem statement

Agent task and bounds

Scientific workflow design & subject matter expert (SME) review/decision points

Scientific reference set and agent context

Scientific evaluation design and application

Scientific internal testing requirements and execution

The scope of this role includes agents built to complete scientific tasks requiring domain knowledge and expertise in pharmacoepidemiology and RWE as well as agent systems such as end-to-end RWE study agents. As a SME working within the product pods and zones, the product scientist contributes to the scientific submissions product/roadmap governance, including eval sets, agent performance metrics, etc. The role also serves as a SME on the scientific workflows relevant to the agent/agent system.

The Product Scientist serves as the study lead for the scientific delivery of agent co-build/co-development/co-design partnerships with Datavant’s pharma and data ecosystem customers. In this role, the Product Scientist is responsible for embedding scientific standards and SME into the build and delivery of the contracted scientific work, which may include the design of customer-specific agentic RWE workflows, application of those workflows to customer SOPs, design and development of customer-specific agents for RWE tasks across the workflow, and evaluation of those agents.

What You Need to Succeed

Master’s or doctoral degree in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related analytic field. Candidates with a master’s degree should have at least 2 years of professional research experience for Senior Scientist consideration or 4 years for Associate Director consideration.

Experience using healthcare data to conduct pharmacoepidemiology, HEOR, or real-world evidence (RWE) research.

Knowledge of feasibility assessment, observational study design, data analysis, and the principled application of research methods to generate RWE.

Ability to design studies, draft protocols, document methodological decisions, and work with research and analytics colleagues to implement studies.

Strong scientific writing and communication skills, including the ability to prepare protocols, results presentations, and reports; interpret findings; and explain study strengths and limitations.

Strong critical thinking, organization, attention to detail, and commitment to scientific quality

Experience leveraging AI tools (agents or LLMs) for scientific work products and fluency in basic AI terminology

What Helps You Stand Out

Experience with multiple types of healthcare data used in pharmacoepidemiology or HEOR.
