About Second Front Systems

Second Front is a venture-backed company on a mission to strengthen global security by accelerating access to emerging technologies for the U.S. and our allies. Founded by Marines who saw firsthand how outdated government acquisition systems held back frontline personnel, we help commercial software companies get mission-critical technology into the hands of government users faster — backed by FedRAMP High, DoD IL2–IL6/JWICS, GovRAMP, UK MOD, and NATO authorizations. Our team is mission-obsessed, collaborative, and decisive, and we’re proud to be Great Place to Work® certified.

About the Role

Second Front Systems is looking for a technically credible, commercially astute, and operationally independent Solutions Engineer to strengthen our EMEA commercial organization.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering, mission, and government customers — translating technical architecture decisions into deployable, warfighter-ready capabilities while keeping pace with customer accreditation and deployment timelines. You’ll own the technical sales path from discovery through validation and close across EMEA: assessing customer environments, developing architectures, running demonstrations and evaluations, and clearing technical blockers so qualified opportunities move to close with clear technical assumptions and minimal delivery risk.

We need someone who can qualify complex enterprise opportunities across application, infrastructure, security, and deployment fit; develop credible technical designs that reflect realistic cloud, network, identity, and sovereign-residency constraints; and troubleshoot across application and infrastructure layers during pre-sales engagements and proofs of value. As a key partner to the commercial team, the Head of EMEA, Platform Engineering, and customers, you’ll build technical relationships with hyperscalers, cloud providers, primes, and systems integrators, support partner enablement, and deliver clean handoffs to implementation — serving as the voice of technical feasibility throughout the sales cycle.

Work authorization & location: Candidates must hold the right to work in the EU and be based in the EU (Remote). Residency is required in whichever EU country you’re working from.

Employment type & schedule: This is a full-time, remote position based in the EU, with compensation stated in EUR. Willingness to travel across EMEA is expected.

What You’ll Do

  • Own technical discovery and qualification for EMEA opportunities, assessing application, infrastructure, security, integration, and deployment fit.
  • Develop proposed architectures covering cloud, networking, identity, integrations, data residency, sovereignty, and security, tailored to each customer’s environment.
  • Deliver demonstrations, run proofs of value, and facilitate approved non-production evaluations for software vendors, defense-tech companies, regulated enterprises, and government customers.
  • Identify technical blockers, dependencies, product gaps, and delivery assumptions before commitments are made, coordinating with Platform Engineering on feasibility and effort.
  • Support technical RFI/RFP, security, partner, and architecture responses; represent Second Front at customer workshops and technical events.
  • Build reusable demos, reference architectures, and discovery materials, and maintain clear technical notes on active opportunities.
  • Feed recurring field requirements back to Product and Engineering, and deliver clean technical handoffs to Platform Engineering, implementation, and delivery teams after close.
  • Partner with the commercial team and Head of EMEA through qualification, proposal, and procurement, supporting negotiation on technical matters.
  • Translate customer accreditation and security requirements into realistic deployment schedules, working with Platform Engineering to resolve conflicts between engineering timelines and customer go-live dates.
  • Align engineering roadmap priorities with regional customer needs and accreditation windows (e.g., NATO, UK MOD, or equivalent sovereign/government certification frameworks), sequencing feature delivery accordingly.
  • Broker resolution of technical-feasibility and resource-allocation conflicts between Product/Platform Engineering and customer security officers, so accreditation blockers get resolved before they delay field deployment.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years in a technical customer-facing role — solutions engineering, sales engineering, solutions architecture, or technical pre-sales.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, and strong cloud infrastructure knowledge.
  • Hands-on familiarity with containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, networking, IAM, and APIs.
  • Working ability with scripting or software development, sufficient to troubleshoot integrations, applications, and cloud environments.
  • Ability to develop credible technical designs without creating unsupported bespoke commitments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across application and infrastructure layers during evaluations.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, security teams, architects, procurement stakeholders, and government customers.
  • Fluent English, existing work authorization (residency-based) in your EU country of employment, and willingness to travel across EMEA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in defense, govtech, or another regulated industry, particularly with sovereign cloud, GovCloud, or classified/accredited environments.
  • Familiarity with government or allied accreditation and certification frameworks (e.g., NATO, UK MOD, FedRAMP, GovRAMP, CRA, NIS-2, C5, or national equivalents).
  • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Fluency in an additional European language relevant to a priority EMEA market.
  • Experience supporting partner/channel enablement with hyperscalers, primes, or systems integrators.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary for this position will fall between €110,000 and €130,000. Your ultimate compensation will be determined by professional background, technical proficiency, seniority, and regional cost factors. This role is also eligible for equity awards and discretionary bonuses as part of a broader total rewards package.
