Who this role is best for

Aimed at senior or mid-level infrastructure engineers who design storage systems with a focus on cost-efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.

Best fit for

  • Candidates with experience designing storage systems for business teams and optimizing costs through tiering and compression techniques
    — “Design storage architecture around workload needs, defining data layout, partitioning, indexing, metadata, and access patterns.”
  • Individuals who have led cross-team storage migrations or built shared data services with measurable outcomes
    — “Experience delivering storage migrations or shared data services across teams is a plus.”
  • Engineers who can translate business needs into maintainable infrastructure and align multiple teams on shared goals
    — “Align product, data, research, and infrastructure teams on requirements, ownership, and migration plans.”

Things to consider

  • The role requires explicit ownership of storage architecture and measurable cost-performance improvements in production
    — “Drive down total cost through tiering, lifecycle management, compression, deduplication, and reduced data movement, with explicit durability and performance targets.”
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to build self-service storage capabilities for business teams
    — “Build practical storage interfaces and self-service capabilities; make ingestion, discovery, access, and troubleshooting straightforward for users.”

How to stand out

  • Highlight specific storage systems you designed and quantify cost savings or performance gains achieved
    — “Show a storage system you owned, your design decisions, how you secured cross-team adoption, and measurable cost or performance improvements with their baseline and constraints.”
  • Emphasize your ability to optimize I/O bottlenecks and data structures for real-world workloads
    — “Hands-on ability to diagnose I/O bottlenecks and optimize data structures and read/write paths against representative workloads.”
  • Demonstrate cross-team leadership and consensus-building without direct authority
    — “Exceptional cross-team communication and collaboration: you can reconcile conflicting needs, explain tradeoffs, build consensus without direct authority, and follow through on shared commitments.”

JOB DESCRIPTION:

JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to shape a storage system that is easy for business teams to use and relentlessly cost-efficient. You will own its architecture, data organization, and long-term evolution as workloads grow.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • Design storage architecture around workload needs, defining data layout, partitioning, indexing, metadata, and access patterns.
  • Drive down total cost through tiering, lifecycle management, compression, deduplication, and reduced data movement, with explicit durability and performance targets.
  • Build practical storage interfaces and self-service capabilities; make ingestion, discovery, access, and troubleshooting straightforward for users.
  • Align product, data, research, and infrastructure teams on requirements, ownership, and migration plans; lead adoption and verify improvements in production.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • Deep experience designing and operating large-scale storage systems, with sound judgment on consistency, replication, failure recovery, and capacity planning.
  • Hands-on ability to diagnose I/O bottlenecks and optimize data structures and read/write paths against representative workloads.
  • Strong cost discipline: you can quantify storage, requests, retrieval, network transfer, and operational overhead, then validate savings without compromising agreed service levels.
  • Exceptional cross-team communication and collaboration: you can reconcile conflicting needs, explain tradeoffs, build consensus without direct authority, and follow through on shared commitments.
  • Product sense and technical taste, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and turn recurring business needs into simple, maintainable infrastructure. Experience delivering storage migrations or shared data services across teams is a plus.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHEN YOU APPLY

  • We encourage a resume beyond a traditional career timeline. Show a storage system you owned, your design decisions, how you secured cross-team adoption, and measurable cost or performance improvements with their baseline and constraints.
  • Your resume MUST include the exact word “Maxinsights”. Applications without it will be automatically filtered out by our internal agent.

DEFAULT BENEFITS:

  • Health insurance
  • Vision care
  • Dental coverage
  • 401(k)
  • Paid holidays
  • PTO (Paid Time Off)
  • Sick leave
